Why the St Barths?

St Barths concentrates everything the Caribbean does best into eight square miles. The beaches are exceptional, with Gouverneur, Saline and Shell Beach each offering something distinct, from sheltered calm to open Atlantic surf. The island’s French character runs through everything, from the architecture of Gustavia’s harbor to the quality of what lands on your plate. There are no large resorts here. Accommodation is almost entirely private villas and small boutique hotels, which keeps the island quiet, discreet and consistently well-heeled. The island is not cheap, and it is not trying to be. What it offers instead is a level of privacy, service and understated luxury that few Caribbean destinations can match.

St Barths Travel Guides

  • St Barths Overview

St Barths has no mass tourism infrastructure because it has never wanted any. The airport’s short runway limits arrivals to small aircraft, which effectively controls the flow of visitors in a way no planning policy could achieve as elegantly.

The island attracts a clientele that values discretion, and the local hospitality industry has spent decades learning how to serve them. Villa rental dominates the accommodation market, meaning most visitors have their own pool, their own kitchen and their own staff if they want them.

Gustavia’s harbour fills with superyachts in high season, but the beaches remain quiet enough to feel private even in December and January.

  • St Barths things to do

    Private Yacht Charter

A fully crewed day charter around St Barths and neighbouring islands, with snorkelling stops, lunch prepared on board and sunset back into Gustavia harbour.

    Private Beach Picnic

A curated picnic setup on one of the island’s quieter beaches, arranged through your villa concierge or hotel with locally sourced food and wine.

    Gustavia Harbour Dinner

A reserved table at one of Gustavia’s best harbour-front restaurants, with a menu built around the island’s French culinary traditions and fresh local catch.

  • St Barths hidden gems

    Shell Beach

Five minutes walk from Gustavia harbor and consistently overlooked by visitors staying further around the coast, Shell Beach offers the same calm water and relaxed atmosphere as the more famous beaches without the drive.

    The Saline Salt Pond Trail

A short walk from the road that rewards with both the beach on the far side and birdlife around the pond itself. Most visitors drive past the trailhead entirely.

    Lorient Market

The Tuesday and Saturday morning market in Lorient is small, genuinely local and a world away from the harbor restaurants. Fresh produce, local vendors and almost no tourists.

  • St Barths Overview weather

High season from December through April brings warm, dry weather with temperatures between 24 and 29 degrees Celsius and reliable trade winds that keep the heat comfortable. May through November is warmer and more humid, with the highest rainfall from August through October. The island’s hilly terrain means microclimates vary slightly between the windward and leeward coasts.

  • St Barths getting there

St Barths is not directly accessible from long-haul international flights. The standard route from the US and UK involves a connection through St Martin, either by air on a small inter-island aircraft or by high-speed ferry.

From St Martin’s Princess Juliana airport, the flight to St Barths takes around ten minutes on a small prop aircraft. The ferry from Marigot or Oyster Pond takes thirty to forty-five minutes depending on conditions.

From the US, St Martin receives direct flights from New York, Miami and other East Coast cities, with American, United and Delta all serving the route. From the UK, Air France via Paris is the most reliable connection, with British Airways via Antigua offering an alternative.

Do Not Disturb coordinates the full journey including inter-island connections, villa or hotel transfers, and any onward arrangements from the moment you land in St Martin.

The Caribbean has always been synonymous with escape, but too often that escape means a single resort, a single beach, a single view for a week straight. There’s another way to experience these waters: moving between islands, waking up to different coastlines, collecting experiences rather than pool hours. Done well, it’s one of travel’s great […]

Although firmly Caribbean, St. Barts feels distinctly French. You’ll notice it in the bakeries, the restaurants, the wine lists and the attention to detail found throughout the island. It is this combination of French culture and Caribbean scenery that has helped establish St. Barts as one of the world’s most sought-after honeymoon destinations.
