This nine-day journey moves through the three regions that define a first trip to Peru, from Lima’s coastal energy to the Sacred Valley’s Inca terracing to Machu Picchu itself, timed so that each destination gets the days it deserves rather than a rushed stopover on the way to the next.
The journey opens in Lima, the Pacific stretched beneath clifftop parks and a dining scene that has quietly become one of the finest on the continent, before the Andes take over entirely. Two nights in the Sacred Valley follow, the circular terraces at Moray and the market town of Pisac revealing a landscape still shaped by Inca hands.
Rail travel through the Urubamba gorge leads to Machu Picchu itself, a private early entry timed ahead of the day’s first arrivals, the citadel’s terraces still holding the last of the night’s mist as the sun clears the surrounding peaks. A final night in Cusco, its Inca walls still visible beneath four centuries of colonial stonework, closes the Andean leg of the journey.
From there, the journey crosses an entire hemisphere of experience, connecting through Lima and Guayaquil to the Galápagos archipelago, where six days aboard a small expedition vessel bring guests face to face with giant tortoises unbothered by an audience, marine iguanas draped across volcanic rock, and blue-footed boobies going through courtship rituals found nowhere else on earth.
The trip opens on the Pacific, with two nights at Belmond Miraflores Park giving Lima room to prove itself to you.
The first day is held free, with time enough to walk the clifftop parks above the Costa Verde and settle into the city’s pace, before a private morning tour through the historic centre takes in the Cathedral and the catacombs beneath the Monastery of San Francisco.
The afternoon turns toward Barranco, and a dinner reservation at one of the city’s leading kitchens closes the day on the strength of Lima’s reputation rather than its history.
A morning flight trades sea level for the Andes, and a private transfer carries the group directly into the Sacred Valley rather than pausing in Cusco, letting the body adjust gradually before the city’s full 3,400 meters.
Two nights at Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba anchor a day spent among Moray’s circular terraces and the salt pans at Maras, worked by hand by the same families for generations, before an afternoon in Pisac, its Sunday market drawing sellers down from villages that do not make the trip the rest of the week.
The morning begins among the fortress walls of Ollantaytambo before the afternoon train winds through the Urubamba gorge to Aguas Calientes, where Belmond Sanctuary Lodge sits closer to the citadel than any other hotel in the valley.
The following morning, a private guide leads the way in ahead of the first buses from town, the terraces still holding the last of the night’s mist as the sun clears the surrounding peaks.
The afternoon train returns the group to Cusco with the citadel already receding into memory.
Three nights at Belmond Hotel Monasterio, itself a four-hundred-year-old former monastery, close the trip within walking distance of the Plaza de Armas.
A private walking tour traces the city’s layered history, from the Inca stonework of the Qorikancha temple to the imposing walls of Sacsayhuamán on the city’s edge, and a day is held open for an optional excursion to Rainbow Mountain, further time in the Sacred Valley, or simply Cusco at its own pace, before the trip draws to a close.
