Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica sits within its own private forest concession on the bank of the Madre de Dios River, reached by a short flight from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado followed by a private boat transfer upriver.
Casitas and suites are built from local materials and raised on stilts among the surrounding rainforest, connected by covered walkways rather than roads, with a restaurant, a canopy walkway, and a butterfly house among the property’s facilities.
The design leans entirely on the materials of the forest itself, thatched roofs, exposed wood, and screened rather than glazed windows, so that the sound of the surrounding rainforest is never really shut out.
A spa set within the rainforest offers treatments using local Amazonian ingredients, and the property’s screened, open-air design keeps the boundary between room and forest deliberately thin, part of the appeal rather than a compromise.
