South Africa to Mauritius: City, Wine, Safari and Beach

16 days

From $8,995 pp

This journey moves from the varied landscapes of South Africa to the calm shores of the Indian Ocean, combining city life, wine country, wilderness and beach in a single, well-paced experience. It is a route defined by variety and contrast: vibrant urban culture, open countryside, untamed reserves and, finally, stillness by the sea in Mauritius.

At a glance...

Beginning in Cape Town, the journey explores the city’s layered history and dramatic natural setting before travelling inland to the vineyards of the Cape Winelands. From there, the pace slows further through the semi-arid landscapes of the Klein Karoo and into a private game reserve, where wildlife and wide horizons take centre stage. The final chapter unfolds in Mauritius, where days are shaped by warmth, water and rest.

Why South Africa to Mauritius: City, Wine, Safari and Beach

In detail

  • Days 1-3: Cape Town

    Days 1-3: Cape Town

Cape Town guarantees a striking introduction to South Africa. Set between mountain and ocean, the city offers plenty in the way of historic neighbourhoods, creative energy and natural landmarks.

Your first days allow time to settle in and explore at a comfortable pace. Visits may include local food markets, where daily life and regional flavours come together, and time spent discovering the city’s central districts. One day is reserved for Cape Town’s most defining feature: Table Mountain. Ascending by cable car reveals sweeping views across the city, coastline and, on clear days, out toward Robben Island.

Evenings are unstructured, leaving space to enjoy the city’s atmosphere, dining scene or simply the changing light across the landscape.

  • Days 4-5: Stellenbosch & the Cape Winelands

Days 4-5: Stellenbosch & the Cape Winelands

Leaving the coast behind, your journey progresses into the heart of the Cape Winelands. Stellenbosch is defined by vineyards, historic architecture and a slower rhythm of life.

These days are shaped around exploration rather than schedule. Wine estates, walking trails, galleries and farm-to-table dining all sit within easy reach. Time is left deliberately open, allowing you to move between tastings, countryside walks and relaxed meals without rush.

The focus here is on place: landscapes shaped by agriculture, tradition and time.

  • Days 6-7: Oudtshoorn & the Klein Karoo

Days 6-7: Oudtshoorn & the Klein Karoo

The route to Oudtshoorn follows one of South Africa’s most scenic drives, passing vineyards, mountain passes and wide-open terrain. As the landscape changes, the feeling becomes quieter and more expansive.

Oudtshoorn sits within the Klein Karoo, a semi-arid region known for its ostrich farms and distinctive scenery. Your lodge provides a calm base, designed to blend into its surroundings. Days are unhurried, with time to relax, explore locally or simply enjoy the stillness of the area.

Evenings are yours to shape, whether that means dining locally or staying close to the lodge and letting the day settle.

  • Days 8-10: Kariega Game Reserve

    Days 8-10: Kariega Game Reserve

From the open plains of the Karoo, your journey moves into protected wilderness. Kariega Game Reserve offers a more immersive encounter with South Africa’s wildlife, set across vast tracts of bush, river and valley.

Days follow a gentle safari rhythm. Early morning and evening game drives provide opportunities to see animals in their natural environment, while the hours between are left for rest, reflection or quiet time overlooking the landscape. Activities may also include canoeing along the river or visiting the nearby coastline.

This part of the journey is about presence rather than pace, shaped by nature rather than itinerary.

  • Days 11-16: Mauritius

    Days 11-16: Mauritius

The final transition is from bush to beach. Flying east to Mauritius, the atmosphere softens immediately as the journey concludes on the island’s eastern shore.

Belle Mare is known for its long, pale beaches and calm lagoon. Days here are intentionally open. You may choose to explore by bicycle, snorkel with a local guide, spend time at the spa or simply settle into the rhythm of the ocean. Gentle activities are balanced with long stretches of rest.

There is no need to do much here. This final chapter is designed to absorb the journey that came before, ending not with highlights, but with ease.

Wilderness to Waves: Luxury Honeymoons in Kenya 5 min read

Kenya’s most compelling honeymoon itinerary moves between two entirely different worlds: the wildlife-dense plains of the Maasai Mara and the ancient coral-stone quietude of Lamu Island. Together, they form a journey that is both dramatically varied and precisely calibrated for couples seeking depth over spectacle.

Laikipia 5 min read

While the Masai Mara dominates Kenya’s safari conversation, Laikipia Plateau has quietly assembled one of Africa’s most compelling luxury wildlife destinations across its network of private conservancies. Here, exclusivity is structural rather than marketed; it takes the form of land, access, and a conservation model that keeps the crowds out by design.

Positano vs Ravello: Where to Stay on the Amalfi Coast 5 min read

The Amalfi Coast offers no shortage of places to spend money well, but Positano and Ravello represent two fundamentally different arguments for how a luxury trip here should feel. Choosing between them is less a matter of preference and more a question of what kind of traveler you actually are.

Chianti’s landscape of cypress-lined ridges, fortified wine estates, and medieval villages has long attracted travelers seeking something more considered than a hotel stay. Here, a villa is not an amenity but the destination itself.
