South Africa Honeymoon: Safari and Kape Town

12 days

From $13,500 pp

From the lion-patrolled plains of the Sabi Sand to sundowners above the Atlantic, this is South Africa’s most romantic journey.

At a glance...

A South Africa honeymoon doesn’t get better than this: four nights tracking the Big Five across the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, one of the continent’s most coveted private wildlife concessions, followed by five nights in Cape Town, where mountain, ocean, and world-class wine all arrive within minutes of each other. A scenic drive along the Panorama Route connects the two chapters, with waterfalls and canyon views marking the shift in pace. Flights, transfers, and full-board safari accommodation are included throughout.

Why South Africa Honeymoon: Safari and Kape Town

In detail

  • Days 1 to 5 - Sabi Sand Game Reserve

Days 1 to 5 - Sabi Sand Game Reserve

Your South Africa honeymoon begins in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, a 65,000-hectare private concession sharing an unfenced border with Kruger National Park. You fly into Johannesburg and connect to Hoedspruit, where a private transfer delivers you directly to your lodge. The Big Five move freely across the reserve, and leopard sightings here are among the most reliable on the continent.

Twice-daily game drives go out at dawn and dusk, led by a ranger and tracker working together. Between drives, the lodge is yours: a private plunge pool, outdoor showers, and candlelit dinners under open skies. Four nights here gives you time to settle into each other and let the bush come to you.

  • Day 6 - Panorama Route

    Day 6 - Panorama Route

Your driver collects you for a half-day scenic transfer along South Africa’s Panorama Route, taking in Blyde River Canyon, one of the largest green canyons on earth, along with the viewpoints at God’s Window and Bourke’s Luck Potholes. It’s a cinematic way to travel between two very different chapters of a South Africa honeymoon, and a genuine landscape shift from flat bushveld to plunging escarpment.

  • Days 7 to 12 - Cape Town

    Days 7 to 12 - Cape Town

Cape Town is one of the world’s great honeymoon cities. Table Mountain frames the skyline on one side and the Atlantic seaboard stretches out on the other, with the Cape Winelands a 45-minute drive inland. Your days here are unstructured by design: a sunrise cable car ride, long lunches at Franschhoek wine estates, a coastal drive to Cape Point, or a slow afternoon on Camps Bay beach.

Evenings in Cape Town tend to linger. The restaurant scene is one of Africa’s best, and the city has a warmth and ease that suits honeymooners well. It’s a place most couples leave already planning their return.

The Okavango Delta and the Kruger region represent two distinct philosophies of safari travel. Choosing between them is less a matter of preference than of understanding what each place actually offers.

Cape Town, the Winelands, and a private safari lodge in the Sabi Sand. Here is how to plan a South Africa honeymoon that makes the most of all three.

From the sweeping plains of the Serengeti to the energy of the Masai Mara and the intimacy of private conservancies, not all safaris feel the same. Understanding how each reserve manages access and wildlife encounters is the key to choosing an experience that feels expansive, unhurried, and deeply immersive.

For many travelers, the appeal of a safari is immediate. For others, concerns around malaria medication can create hesitation. The reassuring reality is that some of Southern Africa’s most respected safari destinations are located in malaria-free regions, allowing travelers to enjoy exceptional wildlife experiences without taking preventative medication.
