Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle is an all-inclusive luxury camp of 15 tents in the hills above the Ruak River, in northern Thailand’s Golden Triangle.
Designed by Bill Bensley, the camp channels a 19th-century expedition, its 15 canvas tents and two-bedroom Explorer’s Lodge spread along a kilometre of forested hillside. Each tent has recycled teak floors, a copper tub, and a private deck, the deluxe tents adding an outdoor hot tub.
Everything is included, from full board and drinks to the activities, and the small scale, never more than 30 guests, keeps it quiet and adults-focused. The draw is the resident elephants, cared for through the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, a rescue project on the camp’s land. Dining moves through Nong Yao, with the Burma Bar and a wine cellar alongside, and a spa, pool, and yoga pavilion cover the quiet hours. Laos and Myanmar are visible across the river.
All meals and drinks are included, and with the camp capped at around 30 guests, dining moves around: a jungle picnic one day, a campfire dinner or a formal five-course meal the next.
Nong Yao is the open-air main restaurant, serving Thai, Laotian, Burmese, and Western dishes under a thatched roof. The Burma Bar pours sunset cocktails, and a wine cellar handles tastings and pairing dinners.
The spa works with mountain botanicals and warming spices across its massages and treatments, with private yoga in a dedicated pavilion.
A free-form pool and whirlpool are built into the granite boulders at one end of the camp, and every tent has a copper soaking tub, with the deluxe tents adding a private outdoor hot tub on the deck. The forest’s quiet does the rest.
The signature experience is time with the camp’s rescued elephants, through the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, walking alongside them and learning the basics of mahout skills rather than riding.
Beyond that, the all-inclusive programmeme covers longtail trips on the Mekong and Ruak rivers, jungle treks, hill-tribe and temple visits, and excursions to the Golden Triangle and the Hall of Opium museum.
A forest walkway leads to the tent, where elephant-tusk-styled door handles open into a large living area. Each Deluxe Tent has a wooden hot tub on the outdoor decking, a full bath in the living area, and an outdoor rain shower.
Each tent is named after local hill tribes, fauna, and flora, with its own colour scheme and furnishings to match.
