At a glance

A 14th-century Cistercian estate in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, where centuries of winemaking culture shape every aspect of a luxury stay.

Set within the Château de Gilly, steps from the legendary Clos de Vougeot, Les Sources de Vougeot occupies a former residence of the Cîteaux Abbots, a building that has defined this wine-growing landscape for seven centuries. Owned by Alice and Jérôme Tourbier of Les Sources de Caudalie, it carries a deep commitment to terroir, authenticity, and understated elegance.

Rooms marry meticulous restoration with locally sourced antiques and contemporary comfort, the stone walls and original terracotta floors setting the tone. Two restaurants cover the full range, from the gastronomic tasting menus at Le Clos de la Tour to the honest Burgundian cooking of L’Auberge des Cîteaux. The Spa Caudalie occupies the hotel’s original medieval wine cellar, offering vine-based Vinothérapie treatments at a deliberately slow pace. The Route des Grands Crus, Dijon, and Beaune are all within easy reach.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

Dining at Les Sources de Vougeot spans three distinct spaces. Le Clos de la Tour is the gastronomic restaurant, where Chef Julien Martin cooks a precise, terroir-driven menu built around the rhythms of the Côte de Nuits.

L’Auberge des Cîteaux offers generous, seasonal cooking in a relaxed setting, with a summer terrace overlooking the vineyards. Le Bar du Château, dressed in deep green velvet, completes the picture.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

The Spa Caudalie at Les Sources de Vougeot occupies the château’s original 14th-century wine cellar, its soaring stone vaults now home to two pools, a sauna, treatment rooms, and a fully equipped fitness room.

Vine-based Vinothérapie treatments stand at the heart of the offer, with Caudalie’s signature grape seed rituals delivering antioxidant and anti-aging benefits. An unhurried experience rooted in the land above it.

  • Activities

    Activities

The estate offers a seasonal outdoor pool, tennis court, bicycle rental, fitness room, Spa Caudalie, and walks along the Vouge stream, with an educational farm on site.

Beyond the gates, the activities lean into Burgundy’s strengths: private wine tastings and guided strolls along the Route des Grands Crus, culinary experiences celebrating the region’s produce, hot-air ballooning, and visits to medieval villages, Cistercian abbeys, Dijon, and Beaune.

Room Types

Le Moulin

A self-contained pavilion set above the La Vouge stream, Le Moulin offers a level of privacy the main château cannot match. Its typically Burgundian architecture, entered through an elegant wrought iron gate, houses up to five guests across a spacious ground-floor living area and a generous duplex bedroom.

Exclusive use of a private Nordic bath completes the picture.

Exclusive Suite

The grandest room in the house at 105 square metres, La Vigne Rose commands attention from the moment guests enter. A richly decorated coffered ceiling, listed as a Historic Monument, stands above original paintings, frescoes, and herringbone parquet floors.

A private bar stocked with cocktails adds to the sense of exclusivity, while the bathroom is designed as a warm, intimate space.

Junior Suites and Suites

Spacious and considered, the Junior Suites and Suites add a generous living area to the mix, conceived as a natural extension of the bedroom rather than an afterthought.

The result is a restorative atmosphere well suited to romantic stays or family travel, with a refined lounge space that encourages slowing down in the heart of Côte de Nuits wine country.

Travel inspiration and editorials

Strasbourg, France 5 min read

France’s most rewarding cities are not always its most photographed. Lyon, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Marseille, and Strasbourg each hold a distinct identity shaped by trade, architecture, and food, the kind Paris rarely replicates. For travelers building a serious France itinerary, these five are not detours. They are the destination.

Luminara: The Ritz-Carlton Yacht 6 min read

Ritz-Carlton didn’t enter yachting to build bigger ships. They entered to prove that service architecture matters more than square footage. On Luminara, that difference becomes impossible to ignore.

French Riviera Luxury Travel 7 min read

Before it became synonymous with yachts and cinema, the French Riviera was a quiet coastline prescribed for winter health. Over two centuries, it evolved into the world’s most enduring symbol of luxury travel.

Marseille 5 min read

Marseille tells its story without polish. A working port before it was ever a destination, it hums with energy — fishermen, spice markets, sea spray, and sun on stone. This is France in its rawest form: alive, imperfect, and entirely its own.
