Morukuru Beach Lodge

Morukuru Beach Lodge

Morukuru Beach Lodge sits within De Hoop Nature Reserve on South Africa’s Whale Coast, around three hours by road from Cape Town.

At Do Not Disturb, we match you with one of our dedicated luxury travel experts who designs a tailor-made itinerary around how you want your time away to feel. With deep destination knowledge and meticulous planning behind the scenes, we transform complex travel into something effortless and entirely your own.

The world without distraction.

At a glance

The lodge is available as a sprawling private residence for sole-use bookings or as a number of smaller suites for individual stays.

Each suite has been designed around the surrounding fynbos and Indian Ocean setting, with private balconies, panoramic views, and a connection to the off-grid calm of De Hoop running through the property.

Activities are guided and included: low-tide marine walks, snorkelling in the rock pools, land-based whale watching from July to November (when southern right whales come close to shore), open-vehicle nature drives tracking eland, bontebok, and Cape mountain zebra, plus sandboarding, mountain biking, and fynbos walks through 1,500 flowering species. A spa-to-suite service and a hot tub above the dunes round out a stay that is as much about the protected reserve as the lodge itself.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

Meals at Morukuru Beach Lodge centre on the open-plan restaurant, where South African menus built on local, seasonal produce are served beside a circular fire that turns the room into a lounge by night.

A sheltered courtyard handles outdoor lunches. Down on the sand, Bites Beach Café pours drinks and casual plates through the day, with a front-row view of the whales between July and October.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

Spa treatments and wellness therapies come to your suite by arrangement, so the experience happens in private with the ocean in view.

Outdoors, a temperature-controlled pool and a hot tub fill the sheltered courtyard, a rooftop terrace catches the sun, and a sunken lounge with a fire pit looks over the dunes to the Indian Ocean. The off-grid calm of De Hoop carries the rest.

  • Activities

    Activities

Stays include two guided activities a day across De Hoop Nature Reserve. On and by the water, low-tide marine walks turn up octopus and sea anemones, rock pools are open for snorkelling, and July to November brings land-based whale watching, with southern right whales close to shore.

On land, open-vehicle nature drives track eland, bontebok, and Cape mountain zebra, with sandboarding, mountain biking, and fynbos walks among 1,500 flowering species.

The Okavango Delta and the Kruger region represent two distinct philosophies of safari travel. Choosing between them is less a matter of preference than of understanding what each place actually offers.

Cape Town, the Winelands, and a private safari lodge in the Sabi Sand. Here is how to plan a South Africa honeymoon that makes the most of all three.

Okavango Delta 4 min read

From the sweeping plains of the Serengeti to the energy of the Masai Mara and the intimacy of private conservancies, not all safaris feel the same. Understanding how each reserve manages access and wildlife encounters is the key to choosing an experience that feels expansive, unhurried, and deeply immersive.

For many travellers, the appeal of a safari is immediate. For others, concerns around malaria medication can create hesitation. The reassuring reality is that some of Southern Africa’s most respected safari destinations are located in malaria-free regions, allowing travellers to enjoy exceptional wildlife experiences without taking preventative medication.
