TRUNK (HOUSE) takes a former Yamaji townhouse in Kagurazaka, one of Tokyo’s last neighborhoods to hold onto its narrow stone lanes and old geisha-quarter atmosphere, and reworks it into a single-key hotel for exclusive buyout.
The concept is what the team calls a Tokyo Salon, a nod to the backstreet eateries and tucked-away restaurants that once shaped the city’s cultural life. Guests have full use of the house and can host as they please, building the evening around private dinners, drinks, or whatever the night calls for.
Inside, the layout covers a living room, garden bath, and full disco floor, with a private butler and private chef on hand throughout the stay. The interiors lean on Japanese craft and a curated art collection, with in-room amenities sourced from Japanese and French heritage makers.
A private chef cooks at the open kitchen, working from a menu built around the ingredients of the day rather than a fixed list. Meals are designed to be watched as much as eaten, with the chef on hand for conversation throughout.
Complimentary wagashi desserts are prepared daily, customised to the weather, the season, and guest preferences.
The garden bath is the centerpiece of the wellness offering, set behind the townhouse, a private outdoor soaking experience available throughout the stay.
In-room amenities are sourced from Japanese and French heritage makers: Hender Scheme leather goods, Fiber Art Studio textiles, Suteteco pyjamas, Hiyoshiya umbrellas, Caring Japan organic skincare, Okamura bamboo toothbrushes, and Officine Universelle Buly toothpaste.
