The world without distraction.

At a glance

TRUNK (HOUSE) takes a former Yamaji townhouse in Kagurazaka, one of Tokyo’s last neighbourhoods to hold onto its narrow stone lanes and old geisha-quarter atmosphere, and reworks it into a single-key hotel for exclusive buyout.

The concept is what the team calls a Tokyo Salon, a nod to the backstreet eateries and tucked-away restaurants that once shaped the city’s cultural life. Guests have full use of the house and can host as they please, building the evening around private dinners, drinks, or whatever the night calls for.

Inside, the layout covers a living room, garden bath, and full disco floor, with a private butler and private chef on hand throughout the stay. The interiors lean on Japanese craft and a curated art collection, with in-room amenities sourced from Japanese and French heritage makers.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

A private chef cooks at the open kitchen, working from a menu built around the ingredients of the day rather than a fixed list. Meals are designed to be watched as much as eaten, with the chef on hand for conversation throughout.

Complimentary wagashi desserts are prepared daily, customised to the weather, the season, and guest preferences.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

The garden bath is the centerpiece of the wellness offering, set behind the townhouse, a private outdoor soaking experience available throughout the stay.

In-room amenities are sourced from Japanese and French heritage makers: Hender Scheme leather goods, Fiber Art Studio textiles, Suteteco pyjamas, Hiyoshiya umbrellas, Caring Japan organic skincare, Okamura bamboo toothbrushes, and Officine Universelle Buly toothpaste.

  • Location

    Location

TRUNK (HOUSE) sits in Kagurazaka, one of central Tokyo’s most atmospheric neighbourhoods, known for its narrow stone-paved lanes, hidden restaurants, and the lingering character of its former geisha quarter.

The townhouse occupies a residential side street, with the main Kagurazaka-dori nearby for restaurants, sake bars, and boutiques. Shinjuku and the Imperial Palace are both within easy reach.

The House

TRUNK (HOUSE) operates as a single-key buyout, with the entire townhouse reserved for one group at a time. The layout covers a living room set up for hosting, a private disco for evening use, and a garden bath at the back of the property.

Interiors lean on Japanese craft and contemporary art, with bedrooms designed in the same considered material palette. The whole house is yours, with no other guests and no shared space.

Travel inspiration and editorials

Tuscany 6 min read

Most honeymoon planning defaults to summer, or to whichever destination is warmest on the day of the wedding. Autumn deserves its own shortlist. It is grape harvest in Italy, dry season settling in across the African plains, the last stretch of Caribbean heat before winter rates arrive, and a handful of weeks in Japan that […]

Kanazawa 7 min read

Ask someone who’s been to Kanazawa what they remember, and they rarely lead with a single landmark. They talk about the whole place, how it fit together, how little effort it took to feel like they’d actually seen it rather than rushed through it. That’s unusual for a Japanese city with this much history packed […]

Kanazawa 6 min read

Kyoto is the Japan of emperors, temples and centuries of tradition; Kanazawa is the Japan of preserved Edo streets, samurai homes and untouched neighbourhoods.

Kissaten 6 min read

A kissaten is not a cafe in the way that word gets used everywhere else. It is a Japanese-style coffee house, usually small, usually dim, often unchanged since the decade it opened. Finding one, sitting down, and staying for an hour is a great way to catch a glimpse of a more traditional Japan.
