Erg Chebbi’s dunes sit far enough from any city that the Milky Way shows up in full, no filter, no light pollution, just the kind of night sky most guests have never encountered.
The journey out is part of the experience: the route climbs through the High Atlas, drops into the palm-lined Dades Valley, and threads the Todra Gorge before the dunes finally open up.
The camp itself is a private setup, run for your group alone, with proper beds and a crew that cooks over an open fire before disappearing until morning.
In detail
Day 2
Into the High Atlas
Departure by private 4×4, climbing through the High Atlas via a series of switchback roads.
A stop at Aït Benhaddou’s fortified kasbah, still inhabited and built almost entirely from rammed earth, breaks up the drive before continuing on toward the Dades Valley.
Day 3
The Dades Valley
A day spent moving through the palm-lined Dades Valley and its gorge, with time to walk sections of the route on foot where the landscape calls for it.
Overnight in a riad or kasbah-style guesthouse along the way.
Day 4
Todra Gorge to Erg Chebbi
The route threads through the Todra Gorge before opening into the flat approach to the dunes.
Arrival at your private camp in the late afternoon, in time to watch the first of two sunsets over Erg Chebbi.
Day 5
The Dunes
A full day given over to the desert itself.
A sunrise camel ride out to a dune ridge, coffee waiting at the top, followed by a quiet day at camp before a second sunset and dinner around an open fire.
Day 6
Return via Ouarzazate
The return route swings through Ouarzazate, Morocco’s film-production hub, with time to see its studios or kasbahs before continuing back toward Marrakech.
Day 7
Departure
Arrival back in Marrakech in the morning, with the rest of the day left open ahead of a private transfer to the airport.
