At a glance...

Morocco’s imperial cities each held the seat of power at a different point in its history, and each one still carries that weight differently.

This route moves from the Atlantic coast inland to the mountains, taking in Casablanca’s modern skyline, Rabat’s quieter boulevards, Fès’s medieval medina, and Marrakech’s souks and gardens. A private guide accompanies each leg, since Fès’s medina in particular, the world’s largest car-free urban area, was built to be navigated by people who had lived there their whole lives.

In detail

Casablanca

Days 1–2

Casablanca

Arrival and private transfer into the city.

A visit to the Hassan II Mosque, its minaret rising directly over the Atlantic, one of the few mosques in the country open to non-Muslim visitors.

The second day is left open for the city’s Art Deco architecture and coastal corniche.

Rabat

Days 3–4

Rabat

Private transfer to Rabat, a quieter and more governmental Morocco than Casablanca or Marrakech.

Time in the Kasbah of the Udayas, along the Bou Regreg river, and through a medina calmer than either of the country’s larger ones.

Fès

Days 5–7

Fès

Three days given to Fès, the heart of the route.

A private guide leads the way through the medina’s nine centuries of history, still organized by guild, still home to working tanneries whose dye pits look almost unchanged from medieval illustrations.

Time is also set aside for the Bou Inania Madrasa and the city’s royal palace gates.

Marrakech

Days 8–10

Marrakech

The final leg picks the pace back up after three more contemplative cities.

Souks, the Jardin Majorelle, and rooftop dinners close out the trip, with the last day left open for whatever hasn’t yet been done.
