This eight-day journey brings together the very best of Portugal – the history and charm of Lisbon, the quiet beauty of the Alentejo, and the stunning culinary scenes of Porto and the Douro Valley.

At a glance...

In Lisbon, centuries of history unfold along cobblestone streets lined with pastel façades and ocean views. Private tours reveal the capital’s layered past, while intimate Fado evenings and hands-on cooking experiences give you a flavour of the Portuguese spirit. Beyond the city, the Alentejo boasts rolling vineyards and ancient towns, where wine estates welcome you for tastings and long, sun-soaked lunches.

The journey continues north to Porto, Portugal’s iconic riverside city. Stay at The Yeatman, Portugal’s most celebrated wine hotel, and explore the world’s oldest demarcated wine region – the Douro Valley. Between cellar doors, scenic drives, and relaxed dining, each day invites you to slow down and savour the incredible food and wine culture.

Why Portugal Culinary Journey: Lisbon, Porto & The Douro Valley

In detail

  • Days 1-3: Lisbon

    Days 1-3: Lisbon

Arrive in Lisbon, where your private driver escorts you to Pousada de Lisboa, a historic boutique hotel overlooking one of the city’s grandest squares. Spend your first evening dining at one of Lisbon’s celebrated restaurants – we recommend the classic Tavares or the Michelin-starred Belcanto – before relaxing into your stunning hotel room.

The next day, explore Alfama, the city’s oldest district, on a private guided tour. You’ll explore narrow alleys lined with azulejo tiles, visit Lisbon Cathedral, and take in the views from Miradouro Portas do Sol. In the evening, experience the emotion of Fado during dinner at Casa de Linhares, where you can enjoy soulful music over some fine Portuguese cuisine.

Your third day immerses you in the flavours of Lisbon with a private cooking class. Prepare a traditional three-course meal alongside a local chef, learning about Portuguese olive oils, cheeses, and spices before enjoying your creations with perfectly paired wines.

  • Day 4: Alentejo & Évora

    Day 4: Alentejo & Évora

Venture out of Lisbon on a private day trip into the Alentejo, a region of gently rolling hills and vast vineyards. Visit an award-winning estate for an expert-led tasting and relaxed lunch, surrounded by centuries-old vines.

Continue to Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its Roman and medieval heritage. Explore the Temple of Diana, Évora Cathedral, and the whitewashed lanes of the old town before returning to Lisbon for a final evening at leisure.

  • Days 5-8: Porto & the Douro Valley

Days 5-8: Porto & the Douro Valley

Travel north by private transfer to Porto, where you’ll stay at The Yeatman, a luxurious wine hotel overlooking the Douro River. That afternoon, embark on a private guided tour of the city’s historic centre – from the Porto Cathedral and Clérigos Tower to the colourful riverside neighbourhood of Ribeira. In the evening, dine at The Yeatman’s Michelin-starred restaurant, where tasting menus are perfectly paired with Portuguese wines.

Spend the following day exploring the Douro Valley, the oldest demarcated wine region in the world. Visit boutique estates for tastings, enjoy a gourmet lunch, and learn about the centuries-old traditions of port and table wine production. Back at the hotel, unwind with a treatment at the Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa or a glass of Vinho Verde by the infinity pool.

On your final full day, join a gastronomic walking tour through Porto’s old town. Taste local seafood, visit traditional markets, and admire the azulejo-tiled São Bento Station before returning to The Yeatman for a final evening overlooking the river.

Braga 5 min read

Portugal’s most visited cities tend to absorb all the attention, leaving a string of historically significant, culturally layered destinations largely undisturbed by mass tourism.

Lisbon 9 min read

Lisbon balances old-world charm with easy modern rhythm. Draped across seven hills, it’s a city shaped by light and resilience. Moorish alleys, tiled facades, and tramlines tracing the past into the present. Here, mornings begin in Alfama’s quiet lanes and end with Fado under low light. Between them: markets, monasteries, sea air, and slow meals […]

Beyond the Maldives: Seven Islands for a Different Kind of Honeymoon 7 min read

The Maldives remains the default for island honeymoons, but a growing number of couples are looking past the overwater bungalow formula toward destinations that offer equal measures of seclusion, beauty, and substance. From the coral archipelagos of Mozambique to the volcanic interiors of French Polynesia, these seven alternatives make a compelling case for reconsidering the […]
