Why Portugal in Ultimate Luxury

In detail

  • Days 1-4: Porto & the Douro Valley

Days 1-4: Porto & the Douro Valley

Arrive in Porto, where your private transfer delivers you to The Yeatman, an icon of Portuguese luxury overlooking the Douro River. Spend your first evening dining at the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant or exploring the riverside’s vibrant culinary scene.

Begin your discovery of Porto with a private guided tour, taking in the tiled grandeur of São Bento Station, the sweeping views from Serra do Pilar, and the charm of the Ribeira district. Later, step aboard a private Douro River cruise, gliding beneath the city’s bridges as lunch is served on deck, before an exclusive port tasting in Vila Nova de Gaia.

The following day, travel into the Douro Valley,an area blanketed with rolling hills and terraced vineyards. Stop en route for a private cooking experience at a countryside home – a hands-on lesson in authentic Portuguese flavours followed by a leisurely lunch. Continue to the Six Senses Douro Valley, your haven of understated luxury.

Spend a day immersed in the region’s wine heritage, meeting winemakers and sampling vintages at celebrated estates. Between tastings, pause for a long, scenic lunch overlooking the river. Return to Six Senses for an evening of relaxation – perhaps a spa ritual, a swim beneath the vines, or dinner at their farm-to-table restaurant.

  • Days 5-8: Sintra & Lisbon

    Days 5-8: Sintra & Lisbon

Journey south to Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage site sporting many of the country’s palaces. Your home is Tivoli Palácio de Seteais, an 18th-century palace turned hotel that captures Portugal’s royal past. Explore the magical Quinta da Regaleira, with its spiralling wells and secret passageways, and take in the bold colours of Palácio da Pena, sat high above the town. Return each evening to dine by candlelight beneath the palace’s chandeliers.

Continue to Lisbon, where your private driver will take you to Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa, a landmark hotel set on the city’s grand boulevard. A private tour introduces you to the capital’s diverse character. You will discover the cobbled streets of Alfama, the beauty of Chiado, and the maritime legacy of Belém, home to the Jerónimos Monastery and Torre de Belém.

Enjoy free time to discover Lisbon’s more modern side too, from LX Factory’s creative boutiques to its rooftop terraces with sweeping city views. One evening, set sail on a private sunset cruise along the Tagus River, champagne in hand as the city glows gold in the fading light.

  • Days 9-12: The Alentejo

    Days 9-12: The Alentejo

Head east to the Alentejo, where open plains, ancient towns, and endless skies await. En route, stop in Évora, exploring its Roman temple, Gothic cathedral, and Moorish lanes before lunch and a wine tasting at a renowned vineyard. Continue to São Lourenço do Barrocal, a masterclass in rural luxury surrounded by olive groves and vineyards.

Spend your days however you wish – cycling through the estate’s trails, picnicking among cork oaks, or unwinding with organic spa treatments. Visit the on-site winery for a private tasting, or join the estate’s astronomer for a stargazing session at the private observatory.

On your final day, enjoy a last breakfast beneath the olive trees before your private transfer to Lisbon Airport.
