At a glance

Kandy House is a walauwa, a Sri Lankan ancestral manor, built in 1804 and set in six acres of gardens in the hills outside Kandy.

The building has been restored into a nine-room boutique hotel, with the courtyard at its centre and an infinity pool overlooking rice paddies beyond. A personal butler for every room and a resident Ayurvedic masseur complete the service.

The property sits around 12 kilometres from Kandy town, placing it within reach of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, and the broader Cultural Triangle, while remaining removed enough to feel quiet. Rooms split between the five Deluxe Rooms in the original manor and four Ultra Rooms with private verandas, none of which have televisions.

    Food and Drink

The Kandy House kitchen shops daily from local markets, with the menu reflecting what is in season. Sri Lankan and international dishes sit alongside each other, and around twice a week the kitchen produces its curry feast, a spread of ten traditional Sri Lankan curries served at the communal table.

Guests can eat on their private veranda, by the pool, or in the restaurant. In the evening, cocktails are served at the Ambalama, the open-sided pavilion that anchors the outdoor space.

  • Spa and Wellness

The resident masseur has 25 years of experience as an Ayurvedic therapist and offers a range of treatments including full body and head massage and energy healing. Sessions can be arranged on request throughout the stay.

Beyond treatments, the property has an infinity pool, a library stocked with books, DVDs, and board games, art materials, and bicycles available for guests wanting to explore the surrounding area independently.

Sri Lanka’s tea country is a place where production and landscape are inseparable. From hand-plucked leaves to historic bungalows, this guide walks you through how the region looks, works and feels.

Kenya’s most compelling honeymoon itinerary moves between two entirely different worlds: the wildlife-dense plains of the Maasai Mara and the ancient coral-stone quietude of Lamu Island. Together, they form a journey that is both dramatically varied and precisely calibrated for couples seeking depth over spectacle.

While the Masai Mara dominates Kenya’s safari conversation, Laikipia Plateau has quietly assembled one of Africa’s most compelling luxury wildlife destinations across its network of private conservancies. Here, exclusivity is structural rather than marketed; it takes the form of land, access, and a conservation model that keeps the crowds out by design.

The Amalfi Coast offers no shortage of places to spend money well, but Positano and Ravello represent two fundamentally different arguments for how a luxury trip here should feel. Choosing between them is less a matter of preference and more a question of what kind of traveler you actually are.
