Dubrovnik, Mostar and Kotor: A Balkans Coastal Discovery

Most trips to this stretch of coast mean packing and unpacking at every border. This one stays put: five nights at a single address inside Dubrovnik’s Old Town, with two private day trips carrying you into Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro and back again by evening.

At a glance...

Most trips to this stretch of coast mean packing and unpacking at every border. This one stays put instead: five nights at The Pucic Palace inside Dubrovnik’s Old Town, used as a single base for two day trips across the border rather than a series of one-night stops.

One day crosses into Bosnia and Herzegovina for Mostar, centreed on the rebuilt Stari Most bridge, its stone arch reconstructed piece by piece after the war that destroyed it, and the old town’s cobbled lanes and copper workshops gathered around it. A second day runs south along the coast into Montenegro, to Kotor’s walled old town at the head of a bay often compared to a fjord, ringed by mountains that drop straight into the water.

Between the two day trips, Dubrovnik itself is left for slower exploration: the streets and staircases missed on arrival, a long lunch off Stradun, and an evening walk with nowhere in particular to be. One hotel, two countries, and no separate packing for either.

Day 2: Day Trip to Mostar

A private day trip crosses into Bosnia and Herzegovina, centreed on the rebuilt Stari Most bridge, its stone arch reconstructed piece by piece after the war that destroyed it, and the old town’s cobbled lanes and copper workshops gathered around it.

  • Day 3: Dubrovnik at Leisure

    Day 3: Dubrovnik at Leisure

A day back inside the Old Town, with time for the streets and staircases missed on arrival, at whatever pace the morning calls for, whether that means the Maritime Museum or simply a long lunch off Stradun.

  • Day 4: Day Trip to Kotor

Day 4: Day Trip to Kotor

A second day trip runs south along the coast to Kotor, where a walled old town sits at the head of a bay often compared to a fjord, ringed by mountains that drop straight into the water.

The drive traces the coastline for most of the way, with the Bay of Kotor coming into view well before the town itself.

  • Day 5: Depart from the Old Town

Day 5: Depart from the Old Town

A final morning in Dubrovnik before departure, with time for one last coffee on Stradun before the walls close behind you.

Spain and Portugal can both make exceptional honeymoon destinations, but they deliver luxury very differently. Spain offers greater variety and a more developed high-end hotel scene, while Portugal is more compact, often better value and particularly easy to combine with wine country and coast.
