At a glance

Chitwa Chitwa Game Lodge sits on the largest lake in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, adjacent to Kruger National Park. The lodge’s waterside position attracts elephants, leopards, lions, and hippos directly to camp through the day, with much of the game viewing happening from the main deck.

Accommodation covers three options. Chitwa House is a private two-bedroom property with its own lake-view deck and pool. Six individually decorated suites each open onto a lake view with their own private plunge pool. The Charlsy Suite works for families, with two en-suite rooms joined by a living area, a bathroom with bathtub, and a private deck with pool.

Twice-daily game drives in open Land Rovers run with a ranger and Shangaan tracker, on a reserve known for leopard and lion. Bush walks, photographic safaris, and cultural visits to the nearby Shangaan village of Dixie fill the rest of the activity programmeme. A holistic spa, library, and rim-flow pool above the lake handle the slower hours.

Greater Kruger is often discussed as a single destination, but it is really two different safari experiences sharing one ecosystem. Kruger rewards visitors year-round, but the experience changes considerably depending on when a traveller goes.
