Honeymooners’ Tanzania

Honeymooners’ Tanzania

Experience the full arc of Tanzania together: the drama of the Serengeti, the spectacle of the crater, and complete privacy on the Indian Ocean.

At a glance...

This itinerary is crafted for couples who want Tanzania’s most extraordinary experiences without compromise. The first five nights are spent in the western Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater—two landscapes that could not be more different in character, one vast and open, one contained and ancient—before the journey moves to Zanzibar for six nights of increasing seclusion.

Zanzibar is split deliberately between the lively northwest coast, ideal for reef snorkelling and Stone Town exploration, and the quiet southeast, where Xanadu Villas offers the kind of private villa seclusion that makes it very easy not to leave. Throughout, transitions are handled by light aircraft and private transfers, keeping the journey effortless.

Why Honeymooners’ Tanzania

In detail

  • Days 1–3: The Serengeti — Western Corridor

Days 1–3: The Serengeti — Western Corridor

The journey opens at &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge, set within a private conservancy in the Serengeti’s western corridor. Access to the conservancy means game drives operate without the restrictions of the national park—off-road where conditions allow, with no other vehicles competing for sightings. The Grumeti River runs through the property, and the resident hippo pods, crocodiles, and riverine forest give it a character distinct from the open plains further east. Private plunge pools, sundowner drives into open country, and the lodge’s quietly elegant interiors make this the right opening note for a honeymoon.

  • Days 4–5: Ngorongoro

    Days 4–5: Ngorongoro

A light aircraft carries you east to the Ngorongoro Crater rim, where Lemala Ngorongoro sits above one of the natural world’s most extraordinary landscapes. The caldera below — a collapsed volcanic crater twenty kilometres across — holds one of Africa’s densest concentrations of resident wildlife: lions, elephants, spotted hyenas, black rhinos, and the flamingo-edged soda lake at its floor. A morning descent into the crater is an experience with few equivalents anywhere on the continent. Evenings on the rim, watching clouds move through the Crater Highlands as the light fails, are as memorable as anything below.

  • Days 6–7: Zanzibar (Northwest Coast)

    Days 6–7: Zanzibar (Northwest Coast)

A flight from Kilimanjaro delivers you to Zanzibar, where two nights at Zuri Zanzibar on the northwest coast provide a vivid introduction to the island. Stone Town’s UNESCO-listed old quarter—a dense, beautiful maze of Swahili architecture, carved doors, and spice-scented markets—is easily reached, and the reef just offshore offers excellent snorkelling in calm, clear water. Zuri’s atmosphere is relaxed and sociable, the right place to decompress from the bush before the quieter days ahead.

  • Days 8–11: Zanzibar (Southeast Coast)

    Days 8–11: Zanzibar (Southeast Coast)

A transfer across the island brings you to Xanadu Villas for four nights, and the pace shifts entirely. Nine private villas on a beach that feels entirely your own, each with a plunge pool and personal butler. Meals are served wherever you choose—villa terrace, beach, or the central pavilion—by a kitchen that has maintained Michelin-trained chefs since opening. There is enough here to fill the days if you want to: snorkelling, a sunset dhow sail, and a visit to the nearby Maalum natural swimming pool. But the best thing about Xanadu is that none of it is required.
