At a glance

Riad Capaldi is a seven-room boutique riad in the heart of Marrakech’s medina, restored and run by the same team behind The Capaldi in the Atlas Mountains.

A heavy wooden door off a medina street opens into a courtyard with a plunge pool, shaded in summer by a large banana tree, with a library, salon, and dining room leading off it, all with fireplaces.

The rooftop terrace looks out over the medina rooftops and is where breakfast is served each morning. Jemaa el-Fna is a 10-minute walk away and Medersa Ben Youssef is five minutes on foot. Pairs naturally with The Capaldi for guests wanting to combine city and countryside in one Morocco trip.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

Breakfast is included in the rate and served each morning in the dining room, on the courtyard patio, or on the rooftop terrace.

The kitchen can prepare Moroccan dishes for dinner on request, with tagines and other traditional specialties available to guests who prefer to eat in rather than head out into the medina.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

The courtyard plunge pool is the main option for unwinding between days out in the medina, with the library and salon (both with fireplaces) for cooler afternoons.

Guests wanting spa treatments during their stay can reach La Mamounia, which has a 2,500 square metre spa, in around 10 minutes on foot. The team at the riad can arrange bookings on request.

  • Location

    Location

Riad Capaldi sits in the heart of Marrakech’s medina, the walled old town and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Jemaa el-Fna, the main square, is a 10-minute walk away, with Medersa Ben Youssef five minutes on foot. The medina’s souks, restaurants, and historic monuments are directly outside the riad’s door, with the wider city reachable by short taxi rides.

Room Types

Cinnamon and Ivoire

Cinnamon and Ivoire share the original cedar ceiling and are both unusually wide for a riad, giving them more floor space than most rooms of this type in Marrakech.

Both can be configured as twins on request, a practical option for friends travelling together.

Jasmine

Jasmine holds a fireplace, the warmest option in the riad during the cooler winter months.

Like all rooms, it has bejmat tiled floors, tadelakt bathrooms with traditional copper fittings, and shuttered windows opening onto the arched courtyard walkway.

Cuivre, Rose and Olivier

The remaining three rooms carry the same character as the rest of the riad, each individually styled with herringbone bejmat floors, Berber rugs, hand-carved furniture, and velvet curtains.

All have en-suite shower bathrooms and air conditioning throughout.

Oulidia

Set around the corner from the main courtyard, with its own private section of the roof terrace reached by a staircase from the bedroom.

Gives more outdoor privacy than any other room in the riad.

A two-storey space with a separate lounge on the lower level, delicate white fretwork, cut-metal lamps, and an intricately painted domed ceiling above.

Greater Kruger is often discussed as a single destination, but it is really two different safari experiences sharing one ecosystem. Kruger National Park and the private reserves along its western boundary sit on unfenced land, so wildlife moves freely between them, yet the rules, the pace, and the feel of a stay differ considerably depending […]

Kruger rewards visitors year-round, but the experience changes considerably depending on when a traveller goes. Wildlife visibility, weather, and crowd levels all shift with the seasons, sometimes in opposite directions from each other, which makes the question of timing more complicated than a single best month.

Kruger National Park is one of Africa’s most accessible wildlife destinations and one of the most rewarding, but first-time safari travellers consistently arrive prepared for the wrong things. The wildlife guides and the packing lists cover the obvious ground; what follows is the part that usually gets left out.

Wine brought most travellers to the Cape Winelands in the first place, but three days here can hold a great deal more: private art collections, working olive groves, cycling through vineyard rows, and a slower pace than a single-day tasting circuit allows.
