At a glance

Convent Square Lisbon occupies the former Convento de São Domingos, a Dominican convent that dates to 1242 and was originally commissioned by King Sancho II.

The building sat in various states of disuse before a full restoration by GRCA architects brought it back into the life of the city, with interiors designed by Artica. The result is a 117-room hotel built around an open-air cloister that remains the architectural and social heart of the property, with a fire pit at its center and a sky view from every angle.

The hotel stands directly on Rossio Square in the Baixa neighborhood, with Teatro D. Maria II at the front door, Rossio train station across the square, and Chiado, Bairro Alto, and Príncipe Real all within a short walk.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

Capítulo occupies the former chapter house of the convent, with vaulted ceilings, marble columns, and access to the open-air cloister for outdoor dining. The menu takes a market-to-table approach to Portuguese cuisine, with seasonal ingredients, shareable petiscos, and more involved plates built around local produce and refined technique. A wine list focused on Portuguese producers operates alongside.

The open-air cloister operates as a bar and social space throughout the day, with an outdoor fire pit and a setting framed by the convent’s original stonework. The rooftop bar stands above the building with views across Lisbon’s skyline and operates for drinks and light bites in the evening.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

The Wellness Center includes an indoor plunge pool with views over the cloister and the São Domingos rooftops, a sauna, and a fitness studio. The pool and sauna are available to all guests.

The hotel also holds a complimentary 5pm tea blending ritual daily, and live music evenings with Portuguese wines and tapas are a regular fixture.

Portugal’s most visited cities tend to absorb all the attention, leaving a string of historically significant, culturally layered destinations largely undisturbed by mass tourism.

Lisbon balances old-world charm with easy modern rhythm. Draped across seven hills, it’s a city shaped by light and resilience. Moorish alleys, tiled facades, and tramlines tracing the past into the present. Here, mornings begin in Alfama’s quiet lanes and end with Fado under low light. Between them: markets, monasteries, sea air, and slow meals […]

Kenya’s most compelling honeymoon itinerary moves between two entirely different worlds: the wildlife-dense plains of the Maasai Mara and the ancient coral-stone quietude of Lamu Island. Together, they form a journey that is both dramatically varied and precisely calibrated for couples seeking depth over spectacle.

While the Masai Mara dominates Kenya’s safari conversation, Laikipia Plateau has quietly assembled one of Africa’s most compelling luxury wildlife destinations across its network of private conservancies. Here, exclusivity is structural rather than marketed; it takes the form of land, access, and a conservation model that keeps the crowds out by design.
