Orient Express Venezia occupies Palazzo Donà Giovannelli, a Gothic and Neo-Gothic palace whose ownership included the Duke of Urbino and several centuries of Venetian nobility. Architect Aline Asmar d’Amman led eight years of restoration before the hotel opened, producing one of the most architecturally deliberate debuts in the city’s recent memory. The building was further shaped in the 19th century by architect Gian Battista Meduna, whose interventions remain visible throughout. Forty-seven rooms and suites include six Signature Suites reaching 145 square meters, each anchored by original frescoes, gilded salons, stucco ornamentation, and marble fireplaces.
The hotel sits on Strada Nova in Cannaregio, one of Venice’s main pedestrian arteries, within walking distance of the Ca’ d’Oro, the Rialto, and the train station at Santa Lucia.
Three Michelin-starred Chef Heinz Beck oversees all dining across the property. The Signature Suites come with butler service, Rivolta Carmignani 1867 linens, and return transfers from Santa Lucia or Piazza San Marco. No two suites share the same design logic.
Heinz Beck Venezia seats 20 guests and operates under the direction of three Michelin-starred Chef Heinz Beck, whose tasting menus apply Mediterranean restraint to Venetian ingredients: amberjack with ash buttermilk, red prawn with lagoon seaweed. La Casati extends to 34 covers inside and 70 in the courtyard garden, serving cicchetti and seasonal dishes throughout the day.
The Wagon Bar is modeled on a vintage Orient Express railway carriage, offering signature cocktails and Venetian aperitivo in a compact, deliberately theatrical space.
The spa at Orient Express Venezia is built around a wellness concept that draws on Roman thermal tradition, Venetian maritime practice, and Ottoman bathing ritual. The signature Razul ceremonies, including The Merchant’s Passage, The Silk Road Passage, and the Palazzo Ceremony, use mineral-rich steam and aromatic clays in ancestral purification sequences.
Skincare treatments use Furtuna Skin products, formulated from wild-foraged botanicals and olive oil sourced from an 800-acre regenerative farm in Sicily.
Orient Express Venezia is on Strada Nova in Cannaregio, the main pedestrian route connecting Santa Lucia station to the Rialto. The Ca’ d’Oro is a short walk away, as are the markets and restaurants clustered around the Rialto Bridge. The neighbourhood operates at a pace slightly removed from San Marco’s density.
Marco Polo International Airport is the nearest airport, approximately 45 minutes by water taxi or 30 minutes by land. Santa Lucia train station is walkable, and the hotel provides complimentary return transfers from both Santa Lucia and Piazza San Marco for Signature Suite guests.
La Minerva occupies a corner position overlooking two canals, with a curved, stuccoed ceiling carrying an original 1710 fresco by Jacopo Guarana, one of the earliest surviving artworks in the building. Furnishings are in pastel tones drawn from the fresco’s palette. The king bed faces a rare Venetian corner window, and the bathroom is carved entirely from Venetian marble, with forms referencing Ca’ d’Oro and the Basilica di San Marco.
This suite suits guests for whom architectural provenance is central to the stay. The dual canal outlook and the Guarana fresco make it among the most historically specific rooms in the hotel.
Named for Count Giovannelli, humanist and arts patron, this is one of the largest suites in the property, with a separate bedroom, a full salon, and a succession of Neo-Gothic stained-glass windows. Arched corridors, wooden and brick partitions, and Pompeian-inspired ornamentation layer across the space, and light moves through the arched openings throughout the day. A full marble bathroom provides contrast to the suite’s considered grandeur.
The Del Conte rewards guests who want both scale and historical specificity. The combination of Gothic and Pompeian references within a single suite is unusual, and the volume of natural light sets it apart from more interior-facing rooms.
The Cherubini takes its name from the cherub frieze that runs across its walls, a work by Sebastiano Santi rediscovered during restoration. The salon sits beneath a wooden coffered ceiling, while the master bedroom is anchored by a king bed set under a blue-and-gold dome lit by Murano glass. Views extend over the Palazzo gardens and Strada Nova. The marble bathroom includes dual basins, a deep soaking tub, and a dedicated vanity desk.
The garden-facing aspect makes this a quieter choice than the canal-fronting suites. The coffered ceiling and the Santi frieze give the Cherubini a distinct decorative register from others in the Signature Suite collection.
All six Signature Suites at Orient Express Venezia share a consistent set of inclusions: Meet and Greet on arrival, butler services covering packing and unpacking, Rivolta Carmignani 1867 bed linens, Murano glass detailing, a fully stocked complimentary minibar, bespoke bathroom amenities, laundry service, and return transfers from Santa Lucia or Piazza San Marco train stations.
Each suite is designed around a specific chapter of the Palazzo’s history, so no two share the same spatial logic, fresco program, or material palette. Guests returning for a second stay will encounter an entirely different architectural experience.
