At a glance

Jao Camp stands on a remote island in the northwest of the Okavango Delta, within the private 60,000-hectare Jao Concession.

The camp was designed by architects Sylvia Rech and Leslie Carstens and built from a combination of natural and recycled materials, with steel, wood, and glass forming a structure that rises into the tree canopy above the surrounding floodplains. The main area operates across two levels, with a lounge, library, museum, and dining area on the upper level looking out over the Delta, and a spa, gym, and entertainment room below. Two rim-flow plunge pools connect to the main area by raised walkways.

The Jao Concession covers a landscape of narrow channels, open floodplains, palm-fringed islands, and seasonal wetlands that shifts with the annual flood cycle. The balance between water-based and land-based activities varies through the year, which makes Jao one of the more complete camps in the Delta for guests who want both.

Suites

Jao’s five suites are individually handcrafted with an open-plan design, each including a lounge, dressing area, and main bedroom with bespoke furniture and a palette that draws on the materials of the surrounding Delta.

En-suite bathrooms include a bathtub, double vanity, and indoor and outdoor showers. Retractable glass doors open onto a private deck with a plunge pool and shaded sala, where a hammock and day bed allow for an afternoon in the canopy above the floodplain. Travel inspiration and editorials

Kenya’s most compelling honeymoon itinerary moves between two entirely different worlds: the wildlife-dense plains of the Maasai Mara and the ancient coral-stone quietude of Lamu Island. Together, they form a journey that is both dramatically varied and precisely calibrated for couples seeking depth over spectacle.
