Sasaab

Sasaab

A nine-suite Moroccan-style lodge perched above the Ewaso Nyiro River in Kenya’s Westgate Conservancy, with camel safaris, river walks, and access to the Samburu Special Five.

At Do Not Disturb, we match you with one of our dedicated luxury travel experts who designs a tailor-made itinerary around how you want your time away to feel. With deep destination knowledge and meticulous planning behind the scenes, we transform complex travel into something effortless and entirely your own.

The world without distraction.

At a glance

Sasaab sits on a rocky ridge above the Ewaso Nyiro River within the Westgate Community Conservancy, bordering Samburu National Reserve, with views toward the Laikipia Plateau and Mount Kenya.

Nine tented suites over 100 square meters each line the ridge with private plunge pools, open air bathrooms, and rooftop stargazing beds. The main building draws on Moroccan and Swahili design, with thatched roofs and natural airflow managing the heat of the Northern Frontier, and a cliff edge infinity pool offers views of elephant herds bathing in the river below.

Sasaab holds Global Ecosphere Retreat certification through The Long Run, reflecting a long term partnership with the Samburu families who own and lease the conservancy, with the lodge’s Footprint Foundation funding school lunches, a scholars programme, and community health initiatives.

The Westgate Conservancy holds some of the largest remaining populations of Grevy’s zebra in the world, and Sasaab’s position bridges Samburu National Reserve and Buffalo Springs, giving access to elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, and the Samburu Special Five.

Dining at Sasaab moves between the main lounge, the veranda, and private settings in the suite, with meals drawing on produce grown in the lodge’s own garden. Guests can choose to dine separately or together, with the lodge’s managers hosting communal meals in the open air dining area. The kitchen blends international dishes with Samburu and Swahili influence.

SpaSaab offers massages and beauty treatments using natural ingredients sourced from Kenya, available at additional cost. Yoga is offered for guests who want a quieter pace between activities. The main swimming pool sits in the shade of trees on the hillside above the river, surrounded by sun loungers.

    Activities

Game drives operate into both Samburu National Reserve and Buffalo Springs to the south, covering the Samburu Special Five alongside elephant, lion, leopard, and cheetah. Camel safaris and a four to five hour guided walk along the Ewaso Nyiro River bring guests level with the landscape on foot.

Quad biking, fly camping at a remote outpost on the edge of the conservancy, and helicopter excursions over the Suguta Valley and Lake Logipi can be arranged at additional cost. Visits to local Samburu villages, twice weekly market trips, and cultural ceremonies arranged with village elders provide direct engagement with the community that owns the conservancy.

Suites

Each of the nine suites covers over 100 square meters, built with a Moroccan influence and positioned well apart along the ridge for privacy. Open plan walls and high thatched roofs work with the natural airflow to manage the heat, with Arabic arches and pillars carried through into the suite interiors.

A private plunge pool sits on the west facing veranda overlooking the river, with an open air bathroom and a rooftop platform for sleeping under the stars on clear nights.
