At a glance

Il San Pietro di Positano is a three-Michelin-keys property built into the cliff face above Positano on the Amalfi Coast. The hotel holds 54 rooms and suites, each finished with hand-painted ceramic tiles, custom furniture, and local textiles, and each opening onto a private terrace facing the sea.

Positano sits at the heart of the Amalfi Coast, accessible by road or by boat. The town’s boutiques, restaurants, and waterfront are reachable via the hotel’s private lift down to the beach club and the coastal path.

What separates Il San Pietro from comparable addresses on the coast is the consistency of its offer: no room lacks a sea view or a private outdoor space, the kitchen garden supplies two of the four dining venues, and the facilities, including a panoramic pool cantilevered above the Mediterranean and a working tennis court with coastal sightlines, are maintained to the same standard as the rooms. This is a hotel where the setting and the operation are equally considered.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

Zass Restaurant holds a Michelin star under Chef Alois Vanlangenaeker, whose seasonal tasting menus draw on produce from the hotel’s ten-terrace organic garden, with panoramic sea views across the dining room. Carlino operates at the water’s edge as a more informal alternative, also sourcing from the hotel’s own gardens.

The Terrace Bar and L’Alcova Bar cover cocktails and wine, with Bits and Bites available for lighter eating on the terraces throughout the day.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

The fitness centre sits partly beneath a lemon orchard and opens onto unobstructed coastal views. Wellness programmeming includes complimentary sunrise Pilates and yoga sessions held each morning on the beachfront lawn. Spa treatments include massage, a Finnish shower, and a Turkish bath.

The integration of the natural landscape into the wellness spaces, lemon orchard above, sea ahead, beach below, gives the offering a specificity that purpose-built spa facilities rarely achieve.

  • Location

    Location

Positano occupies a steep hillside on the southern stretch of the Amalfi Coast, with the hotel positioned above the town on the cliff face. The beach club, town waterfront, and coastal path are accessible via the hotel’s private lift. Boutiques, local restaurants, and the ferry terminal are within walking distance of the shore.

Naples International Airport is the nearest major hub, approximately 60 to 75 minutes by road depending on traffic and the season. Salerno is closer and connects to Naples by rail. Private boat transfers from Naples are available and take roughly the same time by sea.

Room Types

Prestige Room

Prestige Rooms are finished in Italian marble or handmade terracotta tiles in the bathrooms, with grand private terraces oriented toward the Amalfi coastline. The scale of the outdoor space is notable: these are among the larger terraces in the hotel’s standard room categories, furnished and proportioned for extended use rather than token outdoor access.

The right choice for guests who want the hotel’s characteristic combination of crafted interiors and sea-facing terraces without stepping into the suite tier. The bathroom finishes and terrace dimensions make the room a strong value proposition within the property.

Signature Room

Each Signature Room is individually designed, meaning the layout, colour palette, and decorative details vary from one to the next while the standard of space and finish remains consistent throughout. Bathrooms are generous. The panoramic terraces are fully furnished with tables, chairs, and sunbeds and sized for long stays outdoors.

Suited to guests who want a room with some individual character, and to those returning to the hotel who prefer not to book the same space twice. The terrace dimensions and the variation in design make these a dependable repeat-visit choice.

The Virginia Suite

Suite 59, known as The Virginia Suite, occupies a full floor of the hotel and has its own private entrance directly to the panoramic swimming pool. It is the most photographed room on the property and one of the most recognized on the Amalfi Coast, a reputation built on the combination of its position, its scale, and the directness of that pool access.

The suite is the right choice when privacy and a distinct sense of place are the primary requirements. The pool entrance sets it apart from every other room category on the property and from most comparable suites on the coast.

Carlino's Prestige Room

Carlino’s Prestige Room is positioned to deliver some of the most expansive views of Positano and the coastline available from any room in the hotel, accessed from one of the property’s finest terraces. The interiors are light-filled and finished in a bright, polished style that suits the coastal aspect.

A strong choice for guests for whom the panoramic framing of the town and sea is the deciding factor, and for those who want a room with a distinctly Positano outlook rather than the open-water views that dominate elsewhere in the hotel.

The Amalfi Coast offers no shortage of places to spend money well, but Positano and Ravello represent two fundamentally different arguments for how a luxury trip here should feel. Choosing between them is less a matter of preference and more a question of what kind of traveller you actually are.

Chianti’s landscape of cypress-lined ridges, fortified wine estates, and medieval villages has long attracted travellers seeking something more considered than a hotel stay. Here, a villa is not an amenity but the destination itself.

Florence does not perform romance; it simply exists in a state of it. Romance is layered into every palazzo facade, every candlelit trattoria, every view that opens without warning above the rooftops. For couples who travel with intention, Florence poses the ideal Italian honeymoon destination.
