Sailing the Dalmatian Coast: Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik

Sailing the Dalmatian Coast: Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik

7 days

From $6,400 pp

Most Dalmatian coast trips move by car, from one hotel to the next along the coast road. This one stays on the water entirely: seven nights aboard a private yacht between Split, Hvar, and Dubrovnik, anchored in coves reached by no road at all.

At a glance...

Most Dalmatian coast trips move by car, hotel to hotel along the coast road. This one stays on the water instead: seven nights aboard a private yacht, sailing between Split, Hvar, and Dubrovnik with no printed schedule to follow. Most nights are spent at anchor in coves reachable only by boat, with select evenings docked to dine ashore.

The route bends to the day’s wind and conditions rather than a fixed plan, so mornings might mean a swim off the stern before breakfast, and afternoons a slow sail past islands most visitors only see from a distance. On select evenings, the boat comes into harbor, and dinner is taken ashore at a waterfront table, a change of pace from days spent entirely on the water.

By the final stretch into Dubrovnik, the city’s walls and rooftops are visible from the water well before the boat reaches harbor, a last view of the coast from the vantage point the whole trip has been built around.

Why Sailing the Dalmatian Coast: Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik

In detail

  • Day 1: Board in Split

    Day 1: Board in Split

The trip begins aboard a private charter in Split’s harbor, with the crew stocking the boat for the days ahead.

The first night is spent at anchor just outside the city, close enough to see the palace lit up along the shore.

  • Day 2–3: Split to Hvar

    Day 2–3: Split to Hvar

Two days of sailing toward Hvar; stops built around the day’s wind and water rather than a fixed route, with time for swimming off the boat in coves that have no road leading to them.

Nights are spent at anchor, the only sound the water against the hull.

  • Day 4–5: Hvar to Dubrovnik Waters

Day 4–5: Hvar to Dubrovnik Waters

The route continues south past Korčula and the smaller islands scattered along this stretch of coast, most visited by no one but the occasional fishing boat.

Afternoons lean toward swimming and reading in the shade of the sail.

  • Day 6: A Harbor Evening

    Day 6: A Harbor Evening

The boat comes into harbor for the evening, and dinner is taken ashore at a waterfront table, a change of pace from days spent entirely on the water.

  • Day 7: Arrive in Dubrovnik

    Day 7: Arrive in Dubrovnik

The final stretch sails into Dubrovnik’s waters, the city’s walls and rooftops visible from the water well before the boat reaches harbor, ending the trip within sight of the Old Town before disembarking.

A winter honeymoon in Europe can mean fewer crowds, better hotel availability and a more intimate atmosphere, but not every sunny destination offers the same experience. We compare the warmest options, the best places for actual beach weather, luxury hotels that work well out of season, and the destinations that still feel special once summer […]

Spain and Portugal can both make exceptional honeymoon destinations, but they deliver luxury very differently. Spain offers greater variety and a more developed high-end hotel scene, while Portugal is more compact, often better value and particularly easy to combine with wine country and coast.

Most honeymoon planning defaults to summer, or to whichever destination is warmest on the day of the wedding. Autumn deserves its own shortlist. It is grape harvest in Italy, dry season settling in across the African plains, the last stretch of Caribbean heat before winter rates arrive, and a handful of weeks in Japan that […]
