The Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge sits in the far western reaches of the Serengeti, on a tributary of the Grumeti River within the exclusive Grumeti Game Reserve.
With only two other camps sharing 60,000 hectares of wilderness, game drives here unfold without the vehicle congestion that can accompany the more trafficked areas of the northern Serengeti.
The wildlife is present in extraordinary numbers year-round, and the river running alongside the lodge keeps hippos, crocodiles, and a remarkable density of birdlife in permanent residence. Grumeti Airstrip is a 10-minute drive from the lodge, with connections to Arusha.
The lodge holds 10 suites, rebuilt in 2022 by safari design specialists Fox Browne, each positioned to face the river with a private plunge pool and shaded sala on the deck. The design draws on local materials throughout, with canvas, wood, and banana fiber reflecting the building traditions of a Tanzanian tribal manyatta.
An open-sided living area, domed bar, spa, gym, and an infinity pool overlooking the river complete the main facilities.
The lodge holds a Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Award 2025 for Best Resorts in Central and Eastern Africa.
