At a glance

Goatfell is a four-bedroom tea bungalow on the Concordia Estate in Kandapola, at 2,000 metres above sea level in Sri Lanka’s Hill Country.

The building dates from the early twentieth century and served as the estate superintendent’s residence before Teardrop Hotels restored it as a boutique hill country property.

It operates on an all-inclusive basis with butler service, a log-burning fireplace, and an infinity pool overlooking the tea fields. Nuwara Eliya is 30 minutes away, though most guests find little reason to make the journey. What Goatfell offers is not a resort experience but something closer to having a hill country estate to yourself. The scale is small by design, the service operates without interruption, and the surroundings do the rest.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

The kitchen at Goatfell draws on produce from the hotel’s own vegetable patch and the surrounding countryside.

Breakfast and afternoon tea are served on the veranda or in the garden. Lunch follows the format of a traditional Planter’s Lunch, a rotation of Sri Lankan curries. Dinner moves to an à la carte menu, served in the dining room or outside depending on the evening. Snacks and drinks throughout the day, including alcohol, are covered in the daily rate.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

The bungalow’s infinity pool, set against the backdrop of the tea fields, is the centrepiece of downtime on the estate.

Beyond the pool, the property leans on the setting itself: long walks through the surrounding tea country, a log-burning fireplace for the cool hill country evenings, and the cool, clean air that comes with 2,000 metres of altitude. In-room massages can be arranged on request.

  • Location

    Location

Goatfell sits on the Concordia Estate in Kandapola, at 2,000 metres above sea level in Sri Lanka’s Hill Country.

Nuwara Eliya, the colonial-era hill station, is 30 minutes away by car. The setting is deliberately quiet, with the surrounding tea plantation forming the property’s outlook on all sides, suited to guests building extended time in Sri Lanka’s central highlands.

Room Types

Concordia Double Bedroom

Three Concordia Double Bedrooms (Kandapola, Ragala, and Summerhill), each occupying separate corners of the bungalow, with a king-size four-poster bed, en-suite bathroom, private veranda, and views across the gardens and tea country.

Interiors mix antique and contemporary pieces, with plush rugs, heaters, and hot water bottles provided for the cooler evenings that come with the altitude.

Sri Lanka’s tea country is a place where production and landscape are inseparable. From hand-plucked leaves to historic bungalows, this guide walks you through how the region looks, works and feels.

Kenya’s most compelling honeymoon itinerary moves between two entirely different worlds: the wildlife-dense plains of the Maasai Mara and the ancient coral-stone quietude of Lamu Island. Together, they form a journey that is both dramatically varied and precisely calibrated for couples seeking depth over spectacle.

While the Masai Mara dominates Kenya’s safari conversation, Laikipia Plateau has quietly assembled one of Africa’s most compelling luxury wildlife destinations across its network of private conservancies. Here, exclusivity is structural rather than marketed; it takes the form of land, access, and a conservation model that keeps the crowds out by design.

The Amalfi Coast offers no shortage of places to spend money well, but Positano and Ravello represent two fundamentally different arguments for how a luxury trip here should feel. Choosing between them is less a matter of preference and more a question of what kind of traveler you actually are.
