At a glance

Icehotel sits in the Swedish village of Jukkasjärvi, 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle along the banks of the frozen Torne River. The hotel began as an art exhibition in 1989 and is rebuilt every winter by artists who fly in from around the world to carve and design each suite.

Cold rooms hold between -5 and -8 degrees Celsius, with beds covered in reindeer hides and thermal sleeping bags. Warm rooms with full heating, en-suite bathrooms, and panoramic windows give the option to balance the experience across a multi-night stay.

In 2016, ICEHOTEL 365 added a permanent structure with year-round suites and an art hall, opening the property beyond its traditional winter season. The surrounding landscape gives access to dog sledding, snowmobile tours, Northern Lights expeditions, Sámi cultural experiences, and the Midnight Sun in summer, all bookable through the hotel and best reserved weeks in advance.

  • The Art of Ice

    The Art of Ice

Every cold room at Icehotel is unique, designed and hand-carved by artists commissioned from around the world across a wide range of disciplines. Themes shift each year, with sculptures, beds, and entire interiors built from blocks of Torne River ice.

ICEHOTEL 365 holds the permanent collection of luxury suites alongside an ice art hall, both available year-round. The cold suites are built fresh each winter and melt back into the river each spring.

  • Activities

    Activities

Snowmobiling, dog sledding, and Northern Lights expeditions are the headline winter activities. Guided night excursions head into the wilderness with a stop at a warm cabin for a two-course dinner. A dog sled airport transfer is also available.

Reindeer encounters, traditional Sámi dinners, and moose tracking on horseback fill out the cultural side. Summer brings the Midnight Sun, river rafting, and photography expeditions.

  • Planning Your Stay

    Planning Your Stay

The recommended approach is to spend one night in a cold room followed by a couple of nights in a warm room, giving time to explore Swedish Lapland properly without one extended cold-room stretch.

After checkout from a cold room, there is around a six-hour window before warm rooms become available. The gap is ideal for activities, which book up several weeks in advance and should be reserved before arrival.
