Villa Cora

Villa Cora

A 19th-century aristocratic residence on Florence’s southern hills, Villa Cora combines original frescoes and Carrara marble with a heated garden pool that remains genuinely rare in the city.

At Do Not Disturb, we match you with one of our dedicated luxury travel experts who designs a tailor-made itinerary around how you want your time away to feel. With deep destination knowledge and meticulous planning behind the scenes, we transform complex travel into something effortless and entirely your own.

The world without distraction.

At a glance

Commissioned by Baron Oppenheim in the 1860s and designed by architect Pietro Camparini, Villa Cora is a Leading Hotels of the World member occupying an aristocratic hilltop residence south of Florence’s historic centre. The villa reopened as a five-star hotel in 2010 following comprehensive renovation and holds 27 rooms and suites across the main villa and the adjacent Villino Eugenia.

The hotel sits above the Boboli Gardens, with Piazzale Michelangelo a ten-minute walk away. The Oltrarno neighbourhood, with its artisan workshops and independent restaurants, lies within easy reach on foot.

What separates Villa Cora from Florence’s other historic-palace hotels is the combination of architectural pedigree and garden scale. Original trompe l’oeil frescoes, a ballroom, crystal chandeliers, and 900 square metres of Italian-style garden with over a hundred rose varieties frame a heated outdoor pool that operates year-round. Past guests include Princess Eugenie, Tchaikovsky, and Emperor Akihito of Japan.

    Food and Drink

Restaurant Le Bistrot is the main dining room, led by Executive Chef Alessandro Liberatore, whose menu is built around seasonal Tuscan ingredients interpreted through an Italian regional lens and served each evening. Il Salotto del Santa, furnished with green and gold velvet sofas, handles pre- and post-dinner drinks with appropriate seriousness.

The Santa Garden Cocktail Club operates poolside for aperitivo, while the Bellevue Roof Terrace offers open-air dining above the Florence skyline.

  • Spa and Wellness

The Bene Spa is reached via an underground tunnel from the main villa, placing it at a useful remove from the rest of the hotel. Facilities include a tepidarium, sauna, steam bath, and jacuzzi. Three private treatment cabins include a dedicated couples suite.

Treatments use Natura Bissé products, which took Best Spa Product Brand at the Luxury Spa Edit Awards 2025. The range covers signature facials, body massages, and bespoke rituals.

  • Location

    Location

Villa Cora sits on the hillside immediately south of the Arno, overlooking the Boboli Gardens. Piazzale Michelangelo, the city’s primary elevated viewpoint, is a ten-minute walk. The Oltrarno district, Ponte Vecchio, and the Uffizi Gallery are all reachable on foot within 20 minutes.

Florence’s Santa Maria Novella station is approximately 20 minutes by taxi. Florence Airport (FLR) is around 25 minutes by road. Train connections from Santa Maria Novella reach Rome in 1.5 hours and Milan in under 2.

Room Types

Imperial Suite

The Imperial Suite occupies the Noble Floor and is the hotel’s senior address, having received Emperor Akihito of Japan among its guests. Two bedrooms with four-poster beds are paired with bathrooms in Carrara marble. Original frescoes by Pietrasanta and Samoggia cover the walls, and a private balcony looks directly over Florence and the villa’s gardens.

The right choice for guests who want the strongest historical fabric in the building, the greatest space, and a direct external connection to the garden and city views.

Suite

The Suites are distributed across the Noble Floor and Rose Floor, and carry a documented guest list that includes Tchaikovsky, Grace Kelly, Princess Eugenia Bonaparte, and Madame Debussy. Four-poster beds, original wooden floors, and a separate living room define the format throughout, with furnishings scaled to match the architecture.

A strong choice for guests who want full suite proportions with a genuine sense of the building’s history, without the sole-occupancy premium of the Imperial Suite.

Junior Suite

No two Junior Suites share the same decorative scheme. Antique parquet floors and frescoed ceilings appear throughout, but the detail varies by floor: rose motifs and warm tones on the second, hand-painted gold with white and purple velvet on the fourth. In Villino Eugenia, pastel-painted ceilings and three garden-facing windows give the room a distinct character and strong natural light.

A practical entry point into suite-level space at Villa Cora, particularly well-suited to guests staying several nights who want variety of setting.

Family Suite

The Family Suite sits on the Moorish Floor and comprises a master bedroom alongside a second room with twin beds, each paired with its own marble bathroom. Dark-toned wooden floors run throughout both spaces. A panoramic terrace overlooking the gardens adds external living space that few family configurations in Florence can match.

Designed for families travelling with children or two adults who require separate sleeping quarters without sacrificing the quality of finishes found elsewhere in the villa.

The Amalfi Coast offers no shortage of places to spend money well, but Positano and Ravello represent two fundamentally different arguments for how a luxury trip here should feel. Choosing between them is less a matter of preference and more a question of what kind of traveler you actually are.

Chianti’s landscape of cypress-lined ridges, fortified wine estates, and medieval villages has long attracted travelers seeking something more considered than a hotel stay. Here, a villa is not an amenity but the destination itself.

Florence does not perform romance; it simply exists in a state of it. Romance is layered into every palazzo facade, every candlelit trattoria, every view that opens without warning above the rooftops. For couples who travel with intention, Florence poses the ideal Italian honeymoon destination.
