At a glance

SO/ Bangkok, formerly SO Sofitel Bangkok, is a design hotel of 237 rooms on North Sathorn Road, overlooking Lumpini Park in central Bangkok.

The hotel is built around five natural elements, Metal, Wood, Earth, Water, and Fire, each across several floors, the work of five Thai designers with couture touches from Christian Lacroix. The 237 rooms and suites range from the SO Cozy up to the SO VIP Duplex, most with floor-to-ceiling views of the park or the skyline.

Dining centres on Red Oven, a market-style restaurant with live cooking stations, with the Chocolab chocolate studio in the lobby and the Water Club bar by the pool. A rooftop bar takes in the skyline at night. SoSPA, a gym, and a yoga studio handle wellness, and a 32-metre infinity pool stretches along the 10th floor above the park. Lumpini Park is on the doorstep, the MRT is a short walk, and the Silom district is a short tuk-tuk away.

Red Oven is the main restaurant, a market-style space on the seventh floor with live cooking stations operating from breakfast through dinner, and a covered terrace over the park.

Chocolab, a chocolate studio in the lobby, holds workshops and sells its own creations, while the Water Club pours drinks by the pool and a rooftop bar handles cocktails with a skyline view after dark.

  • Spa and Wellness

SoSPA designs its treatments around Thai and French techniques, in a space styled as a mythological forest, with hot tubs alongside the massage menu.

The wellness floor adds a wood-lined gym with park views and a yoga studio that holds classes. The headline is the 32-metre infinity pool on the 10th floor, looking out over Lumpini Park and the towers beyond.

Northern Thailand operates according to different historical and spiritual logic than the central kingdom. Chiang Mai’s three primary temples reveal this distinction more clearly than any guidebook summary. Lanna, the historical kingdom centered in the north, developed as a separate cultural entity, influenced by Khmer, Burmese, and Mon traditions rather than the centralized Siamese model.
