Request a quoteFive years of restoration have turned a forgotten sanatorium into MANNA, one of Greece’s most luxurious escapes, in the mountains of Arcadia. Design teams K-Studio and Monogon Office of Architecture worked alongside archaeologists to preserve the listed building’s character while introducing contemporary interiors, with heritage architecture and modern design held in rare, intentional balance.
Beyond the walls, Arcadia lives up to its near-mythological reputation. Ancient fir forests, clear rivers, and mountain lakes form the backdrop for a wide range of activities, from mushroom foraging and horse riding to canoeing and mountain biking.
This is a landscape long associated with healing and freedom, and MANNA has built its philosophy around those qualities, with a wellness hub, a restaurant led by an award-winning chef, and 32 rooms across the restored 1929 building.
MANNA’s restaurant is overseen by award-winning chef Athinagoras Kostakos, whose creative approach to Mediterranean and Greek cuisine has drawn serious acclaim.
Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the kitchen draws exclusively on local, high-quality produce for dishes that feel entirely of their place, rooted in the landscape and traditions of Arcadia.
Inspired by the healing landscape around it, the MANNA wellness hub is built to restore body and mind. Guests can unwind in the steam room and sauna, take to the atmospheric cave pool, or find stillness through yoga sessions in nature or beside an indoor fireplace.
A fully equipped gym rounds out the offer, in a setting designed to leave day-to-day life behind.
Built in 1929 as a tuberculosis sanatorium and left derelict for over eight decades, MANNA was restored by Athens entrepreneur Stratis Batagias, who had camped near the crumbling building as a child.
K-Studio turned it into a 32-room five-star wellness retreat using local stone, chestnut wood, and terrazzo, preserving the original neoclassical structure deep in the Peloponnese forest. Arcadia’s fir forests, rivers, and lakes open up foraging, horse riding, canoeing, and mountain biking on the doorstep.
A cosy, intimate room for two, set among the sights and scents of the ancient Mainalon fir forest. A king-size bed, rain shower, in-ground heating, and sustainable bathroom amenities cover the comforts.
Floor-to-ceiling forest views keep the natural world front and centre throughout the stay.
Built for guests who want the landscape on their doorstep, with a private balcony or deck framing wide views across the lily pond and the virgin fir forests of Mainalo mountain.
Inside, a king-size bed, rain shower, in-ground heating, and sustainable bathroom amenities keep it comfortable.
The most expansive option at 52 to 55 sqm, blending contemporary design with the original character of the 1929 building, with panoramic views across the pond and the ancient fir forest.
