At a glance

A resolutely farm-to-table five-star country house hotel in Hampshire, Heckfield Place stands at the heart of a working biodynamic estate just an hour from London, where Green Michelin-starred dining and a 17,000 square foot spa redefine what a rural country house hotel can be.

Heckfield Place is built around a lovingly restored Georgian country house set within a sculpted estate of ancient woodland, meadows, and gardens. Six distinct room types, each finished in natural materials and meticulous craftsmanship, offer different connections to the grounds. Sustainability is not a policy here but a founding principle, with a working Home Farm, biodynamic Market Garden, orchards, and dairy feeding the kitchen every day.

Dining is the clearest expression of the estate’s philosophy. Marle, the Green Michelin-starred restaurant directed by Eleanor Henson, draws entirely on the estate’s own organic produce, with open-fire Hearth as its more elemental counterpart. The Bothy by Wildsmith is a 17,000 square foot wellness space set within the walled gardens, offering treatments rooted in the circadian rhythm principle, thermal and hydrotherapies, and an 18m x 6m pool.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

Dining at Heckfield Place is rooted in the estate’s own biodynamic farm and seasonal rhythms. Marle is the Green Michelin-starred flagship, using a pared-back cooking style to let produce speak for itself, with reservations open to both residents and outside guests.

Hearth centers on an open fire, with simple, heartfelt cooking built around the best produce available each day. The Moon Bar comes to life after dark with drinks and infusions made from the freshest estate ingredients. The Dining Room offers a communal long table for shared meals alongside a private dining option for special occasions, while the Cellar hosts wine tastings and private events with an adjoining screening room bar, and the Sunday Supper Table and Shared Table add a more convivial, informal dimension to the wider offer.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

The Bothy by Wildsmith is a digital-free therapeutic spa set within the walled gardens of Heckfield Place, open daily from 7am to 7pm and available exclusively to resident guests.

The philosophy is naturopathic and nature-led, with treatments guided by circadian rhythms, thermal and hydrotherapy experiences, cold water bathing, movement as medicine, and time spent in the estate’s landscape. Wildsmith treatments, wellness programs curated by an in-house Wellbeing Curator, and sessions with master practitioners are all available. Guests are encouraged to allow at least three hours and can arrive at dawn, noon, or dusk for a full wellbeing journey that extends well beyond a single treatment.

Cottages

Two cottages offer a different kind of seclusion beyond the main house.

Keeper’s Cottage stands on the edge of the Upper Walled Gardens with sweeping views towards The Bothy by Wildsmith, while Church Lodge is a black and white timbered gatehouse set within its own gardens, with a gentle palette and embroidered detailing that connects quietly to the Hampshire landscape around it.
