The world without distraction.

At a glance

Grand Hotel Tremezzo occupies a 1910 Art Nouveau palazzo on the western shore of Lake Como, with 90 rooms and suites spread across five acres of botanical gardens. The property includes three pools, a private lakeside beach, a clay tennis court, and a spa housed in a separate 18th-century villa.

The hotel sits directly on the lake in the village of Tremezzo, with footpaths leading toward the Belvedere viewpoint and a private gateway to the water. The Camellia Gardens of Villa Carlotta are within easy reach, as are the lakeside towns of Menaggio and Bellagio by ferry.

What distinguishes Tremezzo from other lake properties is its scale and self-sufficiency. A boutique, multiple bars and restaurants, and a full spa operation mean guests rarely need to leave the grounds. The palazzo’s original period décor, statement furniture, and Art Nouveau detailing have been preserved throughout, making this a hotel that earns the word grand without having to announce it.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

Five bars and restaurants cover everything from formal dining to wood-fired pizza by the pool and open-air barbecue. The kitchen pays direct homage to Gualtiero Marchesi, the Italian chef widely credited with modernising Italian haute cuisine, serving a selection of his signature dishes alongside a wide-ranging wine list.

For lighter meals and aperitivo, multiple terrace bars offer lake views alongside cocktails and Italian staples.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

The T Spa is located in Villa Emilia, a short distance from the main palazzo. Facilities include traditional hammams lined in white Lasa marble, an infinity pool, yoga studios, and dedicated beauty treatment rooms. The spa also offers its own accommodation in the T Spa Suite for guests who want to centre a stay around wellness.

The T Spa holds multiple awards and specialises in skincare, massage, and full wellness programmes, making it one of the more fully developed spa operations on the lake.

  • Location

    Location

Grand Hotel Tremezzo sits in the village of Tremezzo on Lake Como’s western shore, roughly equidistant between Como town to the south and Colico to the north. The hotel’s private jetty gives direct lake access, and regular ferry services connect Tremezzo with Bellagio, Varenna, and Menaggio. Villa Carlotta, with its noted botanical gardens and art collection, is a short walk along the shore.

Milan Malpensa is the nearest major airport, approximately 75 to 90 minutes by road depending on traffic. Milan Linate is slightly closer to the city but a similar transfer time to the lake.

Room Types

Park View Prestige Room

Prestige Rooms are positioned in the heart of the palazzo and open either onto a balcony or through a bow window toward the hotel’s botanical gardens. Interiors use a considered colour palette that references the surrounding landscape, with period furnishings and a marble bathroom throughout.

A solid choice for guests who want the palazzo atmosphere and garden setting without the premium attached to lake-facing rooms. The botanical gardens provide a quiet, green outlook that works particularly well in spring and early summer when the grounds are in full colour.

Suite Greta

Suite Greta occupies a prime position in the palazzo with a full terrace giving panoramic lake views. The bedroom is finished in warm gold tones, and the bathroom is fitted with Breche de Vendome marble and a jacuzzi. Greta Garbo stayed at the hotel in 1932 and described it as ‘that sunny, happy place’, a line the suite takes as its brief.

This is the suite to book when the lake view is non-negotiable and when the bathroom specification matters as much as the outlook. The terrace makes it particularly well suited to longer stays in warmer months.

Rooftop Penthouse

The rooftop penthouses sit at the top of the palazzo with panoramic windows and access to private balconies or terraces depending on the specific unit. Each includes a whirlpool tub and a mix of antique furniture set against a lighter, more contemporary interior scheme than the floors below.

The right choice for guests who want maximum elevation and unobstructed views across the lake toward the Alpine foothills. The rooftop position also offers a degree of privacy that the lower floors cannot match.

Villa Sola Cabiati

Villa Sola Cabiati is a separate Neoclassical property a short walk from the main hotel, available for private hire. It includes its own heated pool, botanical gardens, and formal hallways with historic architectural detailing intact. The scale and privacy of a villa stay are categorically different from the palazzo experience.

Best suited to groups or families who want exclusive use of a historic property with full hotel services available from the main building. Specific room configurations and pricing are available on enquiry.

The Amalfi Coast offers no shortage of places to spend money well, but Positano and Ravello represent two fundamentally different arguments for how a luxury trip here should feel. Choosing between them is less a matter of preference and more a question of what kind of traveler you actually are.

Chianti’s landscape of cypress-lined ridges, fortified wine estates, and medieval villages has long attracted travelers seeking something more considered than a hotel stay. Here, a villa is not an amenity but the destination itself.

Florence does not perform romance; it simply exists in a state of it. Romance is layered into every palazzo facade, every candlelit trattoria, every view that opens without warning above the rooftops. For couples who travel with intention, Florence poses the ideal Italian honeymoon destination.
