Grand Hotel Imperiale is a 1922 Art Nouveau building on the western shore of Lake Como in Moltrasio, a small historic town roughly 20 minutes by road from Como. The original architecture is intact: tiled flooring, floral ceiling details, and handcrafted lamps define the public spaces. The hotel runs to multiple room categories across its main building.
Moltrasio descends steeply to the water’s edge, with restaurants, bars, and boutiques within easy walking distance. The subtropical microclimate makes the area reliably warm from late spring through early autumn.
The property is one of the few on the lake to combine a lakefront pool, two distinct dining operations under a single kitchen, a spa built from local Moltrasio stone, and sports facilities including tennis, putting greens, and a driving range. Ulivo, also overseen by Bertona, operates as the more informal option, with a garden veranda and capacity for up to 300 covers. The menu stays within the lake and broader Lombard tradition.

There are nine Classic Rooms, all oriented toward Monte Bisbino rather than the lake. The interiors reference the building’s 1922 Art Nouveau origins through fine textiles and period-appropriate detailing, including floral motifs and handcrafted fixtures. Rooms are configured as either twin or double and include standard amenities throughout.
The Classic Room is the entry point into the hotel and suits guests for whom the pool, restaurant, and grounds take precedence over a lake-facing aspect. It is the most competitively priced category in the building.
Refurbished in 2017, the 17 Executive Rooms face the lake directly and represent the most recent update to the hotel’s room stock. Parquet flooring and a restrained color palette distinguish them from the more ornate Classic Rooms, creating a quieter visual tone against the lake view.
The Executive Room is the right choice for guests who want a confirmed lake aspect without stepping up to suite-level space. The 2017 renovation means the bathrooms and fixtures are noticeably more current than in the Classic category.
The Panorama Suite sits at the top of the room hierarchy and includes a private terrace and an outdoor Jacuzzi, both positioned to face the lake. Inside, the suite combines contemporary detailing, including a large bath and illuminated mirror, with the Art Nouveau bones of the 1922 building.
