At a glance

A celebrated five-star lodge on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, built from native timber and stone with the Southern Alps as a constant backdrop.

Blanket Bay manages to feel simultaneously grand and intimate, with stone fireplaces, considered interiors, and views that stop you mid-sentence. Accommodation ranges from Lodge Rooms to generously proportioned Suites and Chalets, all finished to the standard the property’s reputation demands.

Dining is a serious affair. A daily changing five-course degustation menu showcases seasonal produce from Central Otago’s most respected local suppliers, with a kitchen that takes its ingredients and producers with equal seriousness. Beyond the lodge, Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Park are minutes away by helicopter, making Blanket Bay an exceptional base for the Southern Lakes region. Fly fishing, heli-hiking, and some of New Zealand’s most dramatic scenery complete a picture that is hard to improve on.

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

Dining at Blanket Bay is anchored by a daily changing five-course degustation menu from award-winning chef Dan Reynolds, whose Euro Pacific style weaves bold global flavors into beautifully presented dishes built around the finest local produce.

Each evening begins with cocktails and canapés in the Den before guests move to the Grand Terrace for mountain and lake views in summer, or the fireside dining room in cooler months. A wine cave, tasting room, and outdoor fireplace setting are available for more intimate occasions.

Blanket Bay’s private helipad opens up one of the most compelling experience programs in New Zealand. Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Park are minutes away by helicopter, unlocking heli-skiing on untracked powder, fly-fishing on remote South Island rivers, and scenic flights over Milford Sound.

Closer to the lodge, jet boating the Dart River, horseback riding, hiking one of New Zealand’s Nine Great Walks, and five internationally recognized golf courses within an hour’s drive ensure there is no shortage of ways to fill the days between exceptional dinners.

  • Location

    Location

Blanket Bay stands on the shores of Lake Wakatipu in Central Otago on New Zealand’s South Island, with the Southern Alps and the Humboldt Mountains as a constant backdrop.

Glenorchy is the closest township and the traditional gateway to Mount Aspiring National Park, with Queenstown around 45 minutes away by road along the lakefront. Travel inspiration and editorials

Auckland 8 min read

Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and its primary international gateway, which means most travelers pass through it. The city has become genuinely interesting in recent years, with a restaurant scene that ranks internationally, galleries and museums that justify time, and neighborhoods that feel lived-in rather than designed for tourism.

Milford Sound 8 min read

Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound are the two primary fjords, and they operate on completely different scales and rhythms. Understanding the distinction between them is essential to planning properly.

At Do Not Disturb, we work directly with winemakers, cellar door managers, and producers throughout New Zealand’s regions to arrange private tastings, behind-the-scenes cellar visits, and dinners that connect you with the actual people shaping the country’s wine culture.

Kenya’s most compelling honeymoon itinerary moves between two entirely different worlds: the wildlife-dense plains of the Maasai Mara and the ancient coral-stone quietude of Lamu Island. Together, they form a journey that is both dramatically varied and precisely calibrated for couples seeking depth over spectacle.
