At a glance

Banyan Tree Phuket is an all-villa resort on the lagoons of Laguna Phuket, near Bang Tao Bay, where every villa comes with its own private pool.

The resort that launched the Banyan Tree name has spent three decades refining the freestanding pool villa. Villas range from the 170-square-metre Banyan Pool Villa up to multi-bedroom and adults-only Spa Pool Villas, each with a private pool, a deck, and Thai woodwork and art inside.

Dining spreads across the grounds, led by the Thai signature restaurant Saffron and the lagoon-side Watercourt, and the Banyan Tree Spa, the brand’s original, anchors wellness. It is a quiet, garden-and-water property, the natural pick for couples wanting honeymoons and slow weeks. The resort is not directly on the sand. Instead it threads around the Laguna Phuket lagoons, with a free shuttle and boat to Bang Tao Beach and the Rava Beach Club. Golf, tennis, and the airport are all close by.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

Dining spreads across the resort. Saffron is the Thai signature restaurant, while Watercourt sits lagoon-side, with a big breakfast buffet and Phuketian seafood at dinner.

Hojo covers Japanese, Tre handles Italian over at the DoublePool villas, and Tin Tapas pours sundowners. Down on the sand, the Rava Beach Club handles barbecues and drinks. Two bars and around-the-clock room service fill in the gaps.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

The Banyan Tree Spa here is the original, the one that started the brand’s whole spa arm, and it still works from Thai and Asian healing traditions through massages and signature rituals.

A Rainforest hydrothermal circuit adds saunas, steam, and water features. Beyond the spa, every villa has its own pool, with a main pool, lap pool, tennis courts, and a gym across the grounds.

  • Location

    Location

Banyan Tree threads through the Laguna Phuket complex, a cluster of resorts set around interconnected lagoons on the island’s northwest coast. It is a garden-and-water property rather than a beachfront one, so a free shuttle and boat operate to Bang Tao Beach and the Rava Beach Club, a short way off.

Laguna Golf is next door, and Phuket International Airport is about 30 minutes by car.

Rail travel offers honeymooners something that flights cannot: the journey itself as a destination, measured in landscapes rather than hours. These routes, spanning Scotland, Switzerland, South Africa, and Southeast Asia, are built around storied long-distance trains and hotel stays chosen to match the slower pace.

Northern Thailand operates according to different historical and spiritual logic than the central kingdom. Chiang Mai’s three primary temples reveal this distinction more clearly than any guidebook summary. Lanna, the historical kingdom centered in the north, developed as a separate cultural entity, influenced by Khmer, Burmese, and Mon traditions rather than the centralized Siamese model.
