AZULIK Tulum opened in 2000 as the first project by Roth Architecture, the studio of self-taught architect Eduardo Roth. The resort occupies a stretch of Caribbean coast between the sea and Mayan jungle, with the entire property designed as a treehouse-style structure built from local materials, organic curves, and no straight lines.
There are 48 seafront villas in total, each with its own design, and the whole property operates as a barefoot, adults-only universe. The name combines “azul” (blue in Spanish) with “Ik” (wind in Mayan).
The dining scene covers eight venues. Kin Toh is the signature, a Mayan-Mexican avant-garde restaurant raised into the treetops 12 meters above the jungle canopy, with an underwater wine cellar that a diving sommelier retrieves bottles from. Tseen Ja covers Japanese cooking, and the new Italik opened in May 2025 as a contemporary trattoria. The Maya Spa, Oceanik Gym, the SFER IK art museum, and the Anikena fashion house complete the wider universe.
Eight venues at the main hotel. Kin Toh is the treetop signature, an avant-garde Mayan-Mexican restaurant 12 meters above the jungle canopy with an underwater wine cellar. Tseen Ja handles Japanese cooking, and the new Italik trattoria opened in May 2025. Mantli, Elixik, Imix, Mirador del Maestro, and Copa del Pintor cover the rest.
At the sister AZULIK Uh May 25 km inland, Jungle Cuisine serves forage-driven medicinal gastronomy and the Mezcal Sanctuary holds guided agave tastings.
The Maya Spa anchors the wellness side, with treatments rooted in ancestral Mayan healing practices and woven into the resort’s barefoot, ritual-driven character. The Oceanik Gym takes care of the fitness side with ocean-facing facilities.
The wider AZULIK universe also includes the House of Ancestral Medicine, which holds ceremonies tied to traditional Mesoamerican healing for AZULIK Club members and guests.
AZULIK Tulum is on Tulum’s Caribbean beachfront at the south end of the Riviera Maya, in the state of Quintana Roo. Cancún International Airport is around a two-hour drive north, and the Tulum archaeological site is a short drive away.
The sister AZULIK Uh May, the brand’s cultural center, is around 25 km inland in the village of Francisco Uh May, between Tulum, Cobá, and Muyil.
Aqua Villas occupy the most private part of AZULIK, with indoor waterways, bejuco floors, elevated circular beds, and geometrical mirrors throughout.
The villas have no air conditioning, no TV, and no electric light — designed for guests willing to fully step away from the connected world for the duration of the stay.
The Sea Villa is positioned directly above the sea, with sunrise visible over the Caribbean from the bed. The terrace holds a hanging Balinese bed and an outdoor tub.
All villas are built from locally sourced materials, with the same no-AC, no-TV, no-electric-light ethos as the rest of the property.
The Sky Villa sits on a cliff position above the ocean, designed for guests prioritizing the elevated sea outlook. A hanging bed faces the Caribbean directly.
The villa carries the same eco-design language as the rest of AZULIK: no straight lines, no AC, no TV, no electric light.
The Moon Villa is the flagship category at AZULIK Tulum, named after the moon’s radiance in the night sky. The setting and scale are pitched at romantic occasions.
