Alila Kothaifaru is the Maldives outpost of Hyatt’s Alila brand, set on an 11.2-hectare private island in the remote Raa Atoll in the northern Maldives, around a 45-minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport at Malé. The Raa Atoll is one of the less-developed parts of the country, which keeps the reefs healthy and the crowds light.
The resort covers more than 80 villas, designed by Singapore studio Studiogoto in an eco-minimalist style built around clean lines, natural materials, and a neutral palette. Every villa comes with a private pool, split across beachfront categories from 202 sqm and overwater villas from 125 sqm, with newer two-bedroom villas and the Boduge Residence added for families and groups.
Dining covers a spread of restaurants and bars, from the all-day Seasalt to Japanese at Yakitori and Umami. Spa Alila, a treetop spa set in the canopy, anchors the wellness side.
The food spread covers several venues. Seasalt is the all-day main restaurant, with Umami covering à la carte Japanese, sushi, and a teppanyaki theatre serving Wagyu and charcoal-grilled fish. Pibati Sul Mare handles beachside Italian with pizzas and pastas, while the Yakitori Bar pairs robata-grill bites with sake and cocktails.
Mirus Bar is the signature cocktail spot, and The Shack handles daily speedboat trips to a private sandbank for picnics and sunset BBQs.
Spa Alila is a treetop spa set within the island’s canopy, open daily and built around treatments that blend Asian and Western techniques. The menu covers signature therapeutic massages, facials, body scrubs, and nail care, all customizable with product and treatment add-ons.
Daily yoga and meditation classes run on the beach at sunrise and sunset, with an ocean-facing infinity pool and a Technogym-equipped fitness center rounding out the wellness side.
Alila Kothaifaru is on the private island of Kothaifaru in the Raa Atoll, at the northern end of the Maldives, around a 45-minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport at Malé. The Raa Atoll is one of the country’s quieter, less-developed regions, known for healthy reefs and rich marine life.
The resort is ringed by its own house reef, with the surrounding waters good for snorkeling, diving, and manta and whale shark encounters seasonally.
The Beach Villa sits moments from the sand, with a separate bedroom and living room. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors open onto a private pool and sun deck, with the ocean air carrying through.
Available as a standard Beach Villa, a Sunset Beach Villa, or a Sunrise Beach Villa. The natural beachfront entry point at the resort.
The Overwater Villa is suspended over the lagoon, with an open-concept bedroom and living space extending out to a private pool and sun deck. The lagoon waters carry through the experience, pitched at couples wanting a quiet, romantic setting.
Available as a Lagoon Water Villa, a Sunset Water Villa, or a Sunrise Water Villa.
