Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge stands on the edge of the Santantadibe Channel in the Chitabe Concession, a private 22,500-hectare wilderness bordering the Moremi Game Reserve.

Redesigned and rebuilt in 2015 by Michaelis Boyd Associates and Fox Browne Creative, the main building draws on the form of the pangolin, with a curved roofline of cedarwood shingles and open-fronted interiors looking out over the waterway. The suites are built to resemble the nests of golden weaver birds, raised above the papyrus-lined banks and connected to the main lodge by sandy pathways.

Bordering Moremi to the south, the concession gives Sandibe access to one of the most wildlife-rich corridors of the Delta while retaining off-road driving and night drive freedom unavailable within the reserve. In 2014 the lodge installed the first solar power plant in the Okavango Delta, with 70 percent of its energy now supplied by solar.

    Food and Drink

    Dining at Sandibe moves between settings depending on the time of day and the preference of the guest. Individual tables in the main dining room, a candlelit boma dinner under the trees, and private dining on the suite deck are all available.

    An interactive kitchen allows guests to make their own pizza in a wood-fired oven or build their own burger alongside the camp’s chefs. A wine cellar is stocked and available throughout the stay, with a menu drawing on locally sourced ingredients and Botswana beef.

    Spa and Wellness

    A spa building stands adjacent to the main lodge and offers massages and body treatments using Africology products. In-room massages are available on request.

    A gym overlooks the waterway and is open throughout the day. Sustainability tours of the lodge’s solar power plant are available for guests who want to understand the camp’s environmental operations in more depth.

    Activities

    Game drives operate morning, afternoon, and into the evening for night drives, with the freedom to go off-road that the private concession allows.

    The concession supports lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, wild dog, hippo, and over 450 bird species, with the area particularly well regarded for wild dog sightings. Bush walks are available during the day for guests aged 16 and over. Helicopter flights can be arranged at an additional cost. The WILDChild programmeme operates for younger guests.

Room Types

Suites

Each of the eleven suites is raised above the papyrus-lined banks of the Santantadibe Channel and designed to echo the form of a golden weaver nest, with wooden structures, mesh screens that open to the forest, and a private deck with a plunge pool several steps below the bedroom level.

Inside, each suite includes a lounge, a copper-toned bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, and a fireplace for cooler nights. A private butler is assigned to each suite for the duration of the stay. Air conditioning, a minibar, and free WiFi are provided throughout.

Family Suite

The family suite consists of two interconnecting suites that can accommodate two adults and two children, with three on request.

Each holds its own en-suite bathroom, private plunge pool, and fireplace, with the interconnecting layout allowing families to share the same space while retaining separate sleeping areas. The same butler service, air conditioning, and suite amenities apply throughout.
