At a glance

Quintessence Hotel stands on Long Bay on Anguilla’s north-west coast, one of the island’s most secluded beaches. Built over ten years by owner Geoffrey Fieger, it is Anguilla’s first Relais and Chateaux property, with nine suites spread across three floors of a building constructed stone by stone to a single vision. No children under 12 are permitted.

Fieger built the hotel around three things that remain central to the property today. The first is his international art collection, accumulated over decades and displayed throughout the hotel, with a dedicated gallery on site and original works in every suite.

The second is the wine cellar, which holds over 550 individual vintages including nearly 75 champagnes, with bottles sourced and labeled exclusively for Quintessence. The third is the kitchen, led by Chef Dominique Thevenet, a Lyon-born chef who has spent four decades working across France, the United States, and the Caribbean, and who has been at the center of Anguilla’s reputation as the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean since the 1990s.

In detail

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

Julian’s is the hotel’s Relais and Chateaux restaurant, named after Fieger’s eldest son and led by Chef Dominique Thevenet, who brings four decades of French culinary experience to a menu built around French-Caribbean cuisine using locally sourced ingredients and daily fresh catches.

The wine list draws on the hotel’s cellar of over 550 vintages, with bottles sourced and labeled exclusively for Quintessence. A champagne room and wine cellar are available for private tastings. Coral Beach Bar is the hotel’s casual beachfront venue, serving island dishes, cocktails, and drinks on the sand at Long Bay throughout the day and into the evening.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

The Aidan Spa offers a program of personalized treatments, massages, and beauty services, with products drawn from the natural landscape of Anguilla.

A fitness center, infinity pool, hot tub, and outdoor tennis court complete the wellness offering on site.

  • Location

    Location

Quintessence Hotel stands on Long Bay on Anguilla’s north-west coast, one of the island’s most secluded beaches.

The Long Bay stretch of coast is quieter than Meads Bay or Rendezvous Bay to the east, giving the property a more removed feel while remaining a short drive from Anguilla’s restaurant scene and the west coast beaches. The ferry to Marigot on French Saint Martin is around 25 minutes by car, and Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport is around 25 minutes by car.

Kanazawa 7 min read

Ask someone who’s been to Kanazawa what they remember, and they rarely lead with a single landmark. They talk about the whole place, how it fit together, how little effort it took to feel like they’d actually seen it rather than rushed through it. That’s unusual for a Japanese city with this much history packed […]

Kanazawa 6 min read

Kyoto is the Japan of emperors, temples and centuries of tradition; Kanazawa is the Japan of preserved Edo streets, samurai homes and untouched neighbourhoods.

Kissaten 6 min read

A kissaten is not a cafe in the way that word gets used everywhere else. It is a Japanese-style coffee house, usually small, usually dim, often unchanged since the decade it opened. Finding one, sitting down, and staying for an hour is a great way to catch a glimpse of a more traditional Japan.
