At a glance

Maroma sits on the Riviera Maya coast in Quintana Roo, off Carretera Cancún-Tulum at Kilometre 51, across a stretch of jungle and white-sand beach. Originally opened in 1995 and now part of the Belmond portfolio, the property reopened in 2023 after a complete renovation that added a new collection of waterfront suites, a new wellness offering, and a reworked dining programmeme.

The accommodation lineup leans residential, with the signature suites and villas at the top of the range, including the four-bedroom Villa Maroma, the private-pool Villa Xuxú and Villa Mariposa, and the Pavo Real Suite. Oceanfront Suites are the entry point for the renovated stock.

The Maroma Spa by Guerlain anchors the wellness side, set within the jungle and structured around purification and rebirth rituals. The food programmeme is contemporary Mexican across multiple venues, with a Fire and Friends chef series bringing in international Michelin talent. The hotel was listed in the World’s 50 Best Hotels.

Rail travel offers honeymooners something that flights cannot: the journey itself as a destination, measured in landscapes rather than hours. These routes, spanning Scotland, Switzerland, South Africa, and Southeast Asia, are built around storied long-distance trains and hotel stays chosen to match the slower pace.
