At a glance

Gal Oya Lodge sits on the edge of Gal Oya National Park in eastern Sri Lanka, one of the least visited and most rewarding parts of the island.

The park surrounds Senanayake Samudraya Lake, Sri Lanka’s largest inland body of water, where a boat safari moves through a landscape of herds of elephants swimming between forested islands, crocodiles along the banks, and eagles overhead.

The lodge itself holds nine rooms built from teak, mara wood, and illuk grass roofing, set beneath Monkey Mountain. Alfresco outdoor bathrooms open directly onto the vegetation, and the wildlife doesn’t stop at the property boundary, with frogs, lizards, and birds moving through the grounds. Beyond the lake, the lodge arranges visits to the Vedda, one of Sri Lanka’s last indigenous forest-dwelling communities, along with complimentary bird walks at dawn, guided night walks, bike tours, and a hike up Monkey Mountain.

The boat safari on Senanayake Samudraya Lake is the signature experience of a stay, with the chance to see herds of elephants swimming between the islands, crocodiles along the banks, and a range of resident and migratory birdlife.

Beyond the lake, the lodge handles complimentary bird walks at dawn, guided night walks, bike tours through the surrounding terrain, and a hike up Monkey Mountain. Vedda community visits can be arranged on request, and the outdoor pool covers downtime between activities.

Sri Lanka’s tea country is a place where production and landscape are inseparable. From hand-plucked leaves to historic bungalows, this guide walks you through how the region looks, works and feels.

Kenya’s most compelling honeymoon itinerary moves between two entirely different worlds: the wildlife-dense plains of the Maasai Mara and the ancient coral-stone quietude of Lamu Island. Together, they form a journey that is both dramatically varied and precisely calibrated for couples seeking depth over spectacle.

While the Masai Mara dominates Kenya’s safari conversation, Laikipia Plateau has quietly assembled one of Africa’s most compelling luxury wildlife destinations across its network of private conservancies. Here, exclusivity is structural rather than marketed; it takes the form of land, access, and a conservation model that keeps the crowds out by design.

The Amalfi Coast offers no shortage of places to spend money well, but Positano and Ravello represent two fundamentally different arguments for how a luxury trip here should feel. Choosing between them is less a matter of preference and more a question of what kind of traveller you actually are.
