The world without distraction.

At a glance

Arctic Light Hotel occupies Rovaniemi’s former city hall, a 1949 functionalist building that the Gröhn family converted into a boutique hotel and opened in 2015.

The conversion preserved much of the original fabric, from the vintage elevator and reindeer-motif staircase railing to the Paavo Tynell lighting fixtures that remain in the former city council chamber.

Rovaniemi stands on the Arctic Circle, its street plan designed by Alvar Aalto in the shape of a reindeer’s head and antlers, and is the gateway to a wilderness that draws travelers year-round, from Northern Lights hunting in winter to midnight sun canoe trips in summer.

  • Food and Drink

    Food and Drink

Arctic Restaurant, the ground-floor dining room, draws on produce from Lapland’s rivers, lakes, and forests, with salmon, king crab, reindeer, and willow grouse across a seasonal menu. Breakfast was developed with Finnish-American TV chef Sara La Fountain and includes vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free options as standard.

Reservations are recommended in peak season. Plan B, the hotel’s lounge bar, serves cocktails, wines, and lighter bites throughout the day and evening, with a heated glass terrace available for drinks during colder months.

  • Spa and Wellness

    Spa and Wellness

Arctic Light Hotel has a sauna available for guests and offers massage and spa treatments on request. A 24-hour gym with cardio and weights equipment is also on site.

For a more involved wellness experience, the hotel can arrange access to local sauna facilities and cold water swimming, which are central to Finnish culture in this part of the country. Several room categories, including the Polar and Polar+, come with a private in-room sauna.

  • Location

    Location

Arctic Light Hotel stands on the Arctic Circle in the center of Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland.

The city’s street plan was designed by Alvar Aalto in the shape of a reindeer’s head and antlers, and the hotel is a short walk from most of the central sights, restaurants, and shopping. Rovaniemi Airport is around 15 minutes by car, with regular flights from Helsinki and seasonal connections from further afield. Santa Claus Village lies 8km north of the hotel, and the surrounding wilderness supports Northern Lights hunting, husky sledding, and reindeer safaris in winter, and canoeing and hiking in summer.

Finland’s glass igloos have become one of the most recognizable symbols of Arctic luxury travel, and for good reason. Few experiences place you this close to the natural world while keeping you this comfortable. Knowing what to expect ahead of time will help you enjoy all the magic that makes a glass igloo stay so […]

Kenya’s most compelling honeymoon itinerary moves between two entirely different worlds: the wildlife-dense plains of the Maasai Mara and the ancient coral-stone quietude of Lamu Island. Together, they form a journey that is both dramatically varied and precisely calibrated for couples seeking depth over spectacle.

While the Masai Mara dominates Kenya’s safari conversation, Laikipia Plateau has quietly assembled one of Africa’s most compelling luxury wildlife destinations across its network of private conservancies. Here, exclusivity is structural rather than marketed; it takes the form of land, access, and a conservation model that keeps the crowds out by design.

The Amalfi Coast offers no shortage of places to spend money well, but Positano and Ravello represent two fundamentally different arguments for how a luxury trip here should feel. Choosing between them is less a matter of preference and more a question of what kind of traveler you actually are.
