Gondwana Game Reserve spreads across South Africa’s Garden Route near Mossel Bay in the Western Cape, the only malaria-free fynbos reserve with free-roaming Big Five.

The reserve sits within the Cape Floral Kingdom, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with the Outeniqua and Langeberg Mountains as a backdrop. George Airport is around an hour away and Cape Town is four hours by road, which makes Gondwana an easy addition to a Garden Route trip.

Accommodation covers three distinct options. Kwena Lodge holds 14 open-plan suites with infinity pools, a modern twist on traditional Khoi-San dwellings. The Bush Villas and Fynbos Villas work as private homes for families or larger groups. Ulubisi House is the private-residence option with its own chef, butler, and field guide. Twice-daily game drives in open 4x4s anchor the activity programmeme, with full-board and half-board packages available.

    African boma breakfasts is served each morning. Veranda lunch platters, boma barbecues, picnics, and outdoor sundowner dining options carry through the day.

    The kitchen leans toward Pan-African cuisine, with the wine list geared toward local labels from the surrounding Cape Winelands. Full-board and half-board packages are available.

    Spa and Wellness

    The bush spa is set apart from the main lodge, a quiet pair of treatment rooms working through a deluxe menu of massages, facials, and body treatments with Africology products.

    Back at Kwena Lodge, an infinity pool stretches along the deck with private loungers and a poolside bar, looking over the fynbos and the Outeniqua Mountains. The easiest place to slow down between morning and afternoon drives.
