Why the Amalfi Coast?

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most glamorous coastlines in the world. The drive along the Corniche, cliffs dropping to the sea on one side and terraced lemon groves climbing into the hills on the other, is an experience that no amount of prior research quite prepares you for.

Fifty kilometres of coastline, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, and a string of villages that have been drawing artists, writers, and discerning travellers for centuries.

Capri sits just offshore, easily reached by boat, adding a second layer to the trip without requiring additional planning.

Positano

The Amalfi Coast’s most recognisable village, and still the most rewarding when handled properly. Houses fall in steep succession from cliff to shoreline, threaded by narrow stairways that double as streets. At the water, a small harbour quietly orchestrates the rhythm of arrivals and departures.

Ravello and Villa Cimbrone

Set above the coastline, Ravello gives you one of the best views in Europe. The air is cooler, the pace slower, the views wider. At Villa Cimbrone, the Terrace of Infinity stretches out towards the horizon, a line between land and sea that has drawn artists and writers for generations.

The Path of the Gods

High above the coastline, the path between Bomerano and Nocelle traces a quiet line along the cliffs. The views are constant, down to Positano and out towards the islands of Li Galli.
Praiano

Praiano sits between Positano and Amalfi, quieter than both, with a small fishing harbour, a church whose bells you can hear across the water, and none of the crowds that have followed Positano’s fame.

Atrani

Just beyond Amalfi, almost hidden in plain sight, Atrani feels untouched by comparison. A small piazza opens directly onto the beach, framed by pastel buildings and steep steps that lead back into the village. It is compact, quiet, and distinctly local. It also has a lot of stairs so it’s best avoided if you have any mobility issues.

Cetara

A working fishing village on the western edge of the coast, Cetara is defined less by views and more by tradition. Known for its anchovies and colatura, the town’s identity is tied to the sea in a way much of the Amalfi Coast has moved beyond.
Spring (March–May)

Mild and gradually warming (12–22°C), with April and May offering the best balance of light, temperature, and space. Gardens are in bloom, the coastline feels fresh, and the season begins without the intensity of summer crowds.

Summer (June–August)

Hot and busy (25–32°C), with long days built around the sea. Boat access becomes essential, offering relief from the heat and a different perspective of the coastline. July and August bring peak crowds, particularly in Positano and Capri, but with the right planning, the experience remains smooth.

Autumn (September–November)

Warm and settled through September and early October (18–28°C), with softer light and fewer visitors. The sea remains swimmable, restaurants are fully open, and the pace begins to ease. By November, many hotels and services start to close, shifting the coast into a quieter, more local pace.

Winter (December–February)

Cool and quiet (8–15°C), with much of the coastline closed for the season. This is not a typical time for a first visit, but it offers a different perspective for those interested in the region beyond tourism. Larger towns like Amalfi and Sorrento remain accessible, though the overall experience is more limited.
The Amalfi Coast is reached via Naples International Airport (NAP), the closest gateway to the region, with Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) offering a wider range of long-haul connections.

From the United States, direct flights operate into Rome from major hubs including New York, Miami, and Los Angeles, with a flight time of around 8–10 hours. From there, a private transfer or high-speed train to Naples, followed by a chauffeured drive along the coast, provides the most seamless arrival.

From the United Kingdom, direct flights to Naples take approximately 2.5 hours from London and other major cities. Alternatively, flying into Rome offers greater flexibility, with onward connections by train or private transfer. Helicopter transfers can also be arranged during peak season, reducing travel time and avoiding road congestion.

Italy is part of the Schengen Area. UK and US travellers can visit visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, though it is always worth checking current entry requirements before departure.

Once in the region, private drivers and boat transfers are the most efficient way to move between Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, and Capri. We plan these transitions carefully, avoiding peak traffic and ensuring each journey is seamless.
