Opened in September 2021 on the natural island of Thilamaafushi, Le Méridien Maldives Resort and Spa is the Le Méridien brand’s Maldives outpost, set in the relatively underdeveloped Lhaviyani Atoll around a 35-minute seaplane flight north of Malé. The design follows the brand’s European heritage and a mid-century modern aesthetic, spread across nine hectares of indigenous greenery and lagoon.
Accommodation covers more than 130 villas across beach and overwater categories, ranging from around 82 to 280 sqm, most with private pools and direct access to the beach or lagoon. Sunrise and sunset overwater villas line the jetties, with two-bedroom options for families.
Six restaurants and bars cover the dining side, anchored by the Japanese signature Tabemasu. The Explore Spa, two infinity pools, a padel court, and a dedicated kids’ hub round out the facilities, with a private island, Bodu Finolhu, given over to marine conservation.

The adults-only La Vie is a tapas bar with its own pool, and Waves Café handles coffee and lighter, wholesome plates.
Explore Spa is built over the water, with treatment rooms set on clear-panelled floors that look down to the marine life below and private outdoor bathrooms facing the ocean.
Signature treatments include the Chakra Art ritual, the two-therapist Four Hand Choreography, and the Discovery Massage, which draws on Indian Ocean healing traditions. Couples and children’s treatments, a relaxation lounge, hair and nail care, and private yoga sessions round out the offering.
The house reef is a major draw, wrapping much of the island with shore entry from the beach and overwater villa steps, and home to eagle rays, green turtles, and blacktip reef sharks. A PADI dive centre and resident marine biologist handle dives, night snorkelling, reef talks, and a coral restoration programme.
The private island of Bodu Finolhu holds a marine conservation hub, and the resort also has a kids’ hub, a hydroponic greenhouse, and a padel court.
