The Amalfi Coast looks different from the water, and it is the only perspective that does it justice.
Explore the Amalfi Coast on a private boat charter. With dramatic cliffs, hidden sea caves, and villages unreachable by road, the coastline reveals itself slowly and entirely on your terms.
The coastal road is one of the most celebrated drives in Europe, but in summer it is also one of the most congested. Much of what makes the Amalfi Coast extraordinary, its sea grottos, its tucked-away coves, its approach to Positano from the open water, is simply not visible from it. A private boat charter changes the geometry of the whole experience.
About Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb is a luxury travel company specializing in carefully designed journeys and considered experiences. Each itinerary we build for our clients is informed by real destination knowledge, offering insight into places, cultures, and moments that shape how a trip comes together.
If this destination has sparked ideas, the itinerary can be developed into a private journey tailored to your interests and travel style, with hand-picked stays, thoughtful routing, and experiences curated around what matters most to you.
Why Explore the Amalfi Coast by Private Boat?
The Amalfi Coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognised as much for its natural landscape as its towns. From the water, that landscape is unobstructed. Cliffs drop directly into the sea. Villages appear suddenly around headlands. Coves with no road access become easy stopping points for a swim.
A private charter also means the itinerary is yours. There are no fixed stops, no shared commentary, and no schedule imposed by a larger group. The captain advises, you decide.
Half Day, Full Day, or Sunset Charter
Most private Amalfi Coast boat charters fall into one of three formats. A half-day of around four hours covers the core stretch between Positano and Amalfi, with time to pass the Fiordo di Furore, visit the Grotta dello Smeraldo, and swim near the Li Galli islands. A full day of seven to eight hours allows for a proper lunch ashore at a waterfront restaurant, time to explore a town on foot, and a more unhurried pace throughout. Sunset charters of one to two hours are a shorter option, departing in the late afternoon with prosecco on board as the light drops behind Positano.
The full-day private charter remains the most popular choice, and for good reason. The coast rewards time.
Choosing the Right Boat for Your Charter
Traditional wooden Gozzi are the classic choice for an Amalfi Coast boat tour, slower and more in keeping with the aesthetic of the coast. Speedboats cover more ground and suit guests with ambitious itineraries or limited time. Luxury motor yachts offer the most comfort and onboard space, particularly for larger groups or those who want to spend extended time at anchor.
Most private charters include a skipper, fuel, towels, soft drinks, and prosecco as standard. Some operators offer snorkelling equipment, and lunch reservations at waterside restaurants can usually be arranged in advance.
What to See on an Amalfi Coast Boat Tour
The coastline between Sorrento and Salerno covers around 50 kilometres and contains some of the most photographed scenery in the Mediterranean. The Fiordo di Furore, a narrow sea inlet carved between two cliff faces, is one of the coast’s most striking natural features and is best appreciated from the water. The Grotta dello Smeraldo takes its name from the quality of light inside, a function of the way seawater filters through submerged cave openings. The Li Galli islands, a small privately owned archipelago just offshore from Positano, were once owned by Rudolf Nureyev and offer one of the most scenic anchorages on the coast.
Departure points vary. Most private charters can pick up from Positano, Amalfi, Praiano, Sorrento, or Salerno depending on where you are based.
